Chapter one: the beginning of pain.
The rain fell heavily that night, washing away the quietness of the small street where Chidimma stood, drenched and trembling.
Her heart wasn't just broken—it felt completely shattered.
"Please… don't do this," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the thunder.
But he didn't look back.
Julian paused for a second, his hand on the car door, his jaw tight. For a moment, she thought—hoped—he would turn around, run back to her, and say it was all a mistake.
But hope was a dangerous thing.
"I'm sorry," he said coldly, avoiding her eyes. "This is for the best."
"For the best?" she repeated, her voice rising, filled with disbelief. "After everything? After all the promises you made to me?"
Silence.
That silence hurt more than any words ever could.
The car engine roared to life, and in seconds, he was gone—leaving her alone in the rain, in the pain, in the memories they once shared.
Chidimma slowly sank to her knees, her tears mixing with the rain.
She had given him everything—her love, her trust, her dreams.
And he gave her… heartbreak.
Two years later…
"Chidimma! Hurry up, you're going to be late!" her friend Amaka shouted from outside the small room.
"I'm coming!" she replied, quickly tying her hair and staring at her reflection in the cracked mirror.
The girl looking back at her wasn't the same girl from two years ago.
This Chidimma was stronger.
Colder.
And done with love.
Or at least… that's what she told herself.
She picked up her bag and stepped outside, determination written all over her face.
Today was important.
Very important.
Because today, she was stepping into a new world—a world where she would no longer be the girl who got abandoned in the rain.
Little did she know…
That same world was about to bring her face to face with the man who broke her.
And this time—
Everything would change.
