Chapter 6:
The night did not feel like night anymore.
It felt like something watching.
Aren stood in the empty field behind the inn, his breath uneven, eyes fixed on his own hands.
The second heartbeat was still there.
Thump.
Not his.
Something else.
Inside him.
Aren swallowed hard. "Stop… whatever you are…"
Silence.
For a moment, nothing responded.
Then—
"Stop?"
The voice echoed inside his mind again.
Calm.
Deep.
Too close.
Aren's body stiffened.
"…You can talk."
A faint pulse of black light flickered under his skin.
"I have always been talking."
"You were just too small to hear me."
Aren stepped back instinctively.
"What are you?"
The wind around him suddenly slowed.
Not stopped.
Frozen in hesitation.
The system inside his mind flickered violently:
WARNING: UNKNOWN CORE RESONANCE DETECTED
HOST SYNCHRONIZATION: 12%
Aren frowned.
"…System? Answer me!"
No response.
Only static.
The voice inside him gave a quiet laugh.
"System?"
"That thing is only a cage built on top of me."
Aren's eyes widened slightly.
"…Cage?"
The ground beneath his feet cracked.
Not violently.
Like reality was tired of holding shape.
Aren clenched his fists.
"I don't care what you are… just get out of my head!"
A pause.
Then—
The voice softened.
"You don't mean that."
Aren froze.
And suddenly—
A memory flashed.
The crystal.
The silence.
The laughter.
"No ability detected."
His chest tightened.
The voice continued.
"You called for power."
"You called for meaning."
"And I answered."
Aren's breathing became unstable.
"I didn't ask for this…"
"But you accepted it."
Silence.
The wind returned—but wrong again.
Circling him.
Waiting.
Aren stepped forward, shaking.
"Show yourself."
The voice paused.
Then—
"Look inside."
Aren hesitated.
Then slowly closed his eyes.
At first—nothing.
Darkness.
Then—
A crack.
A thin line of black light opened in the void of his mind.
And behind it…
Something vast.
Not a monster.
Not a man.
Not even a shape.
Just presence.
Infinite.
Watching him back.
Aren's eyes snapped open.
He staggered.
"What… was that?!"
His heartbeat spiked.
THUMP.
Louder.
The system exploded in warning:
HOST SOUL DISTORTION: 45%
WARNING: INTERNAL ENTITY AWAKENING
Aren backed away.
"No… no no no…"
The voice inside him became sharper now.
"You saw only a fragment."
Aren shook his head.
"That wasn't a fragment… that was—"
He stopped.
Because he didn't have words for it.
The voice finished for him.
"You."
Silence.
Aren's blood ran cold.
"…That thing… is me?"
A pause.
Then—
"Part of you."
Aren's knees nearly gave out.
The system flickered again, weaker this time:
SYNC RATE INCREASING… 18%… 19%…
Aren shouted inside his mind.
"System! Tell me what's happening!"
This time—
The system answered.
But it sounded… afraid.
HOST CONDITION: UNSTABLE VOID LINK DETECTED
RECOMMENDATION: SEAL BREACH IMMEDIATELY
Aren froze.
"Seal?"
The voice inside him suddenly grew colder.
"So it still thinks it can lock me."
Aren's breath caught.
"What seal?!"
The ground behind him suddenly trembled.
Not from outside.
From inside him.
Aren stumbled.
Dark cracks spread across his arm.
He panicked.
"Stop! Stop whatever you're doing!"
But the voice didn't stop.
"I am not doing this."
"You are."
Aren's eyes widened.
"…Me?"
The cracks spread further.
And suddenly—
A second heartbeat echoed louder than before.
THUMP.
The air shattered.
A shockwave of black energy exploded outward—but didn't destroy anything.
It simply rewrote the space around him.
Grass turned darker.
The sky flickered for a second.
Reality glitched.
Aren gasped.
"What am I?!"
And then—
A voice came from far away.
Not inside him.
Outside.
Cold.
Familiar.
"I warned you."
Aren spun instantly.
The man in the dark coat stood at the edge of the field again.
But this time—
he wasn't calm.
His eyes were serious.
Aren stepped back.
"You…!"
The man stared at the cracks on Aren's body.
"…It's worse than I thought."
Aren shouted.
"What is inside me?!"
The man didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he said one sentence that froze everything:
"You didn't awaken power."
"You awakened what the system buried at the beginning of time."
Aren's voice dropped.
"…And what was that?"
The man looked directly at him.
And said:
"An Error that can rewrite existence."
Silence.
The wind stopped again.
Even the voice inside Aren went quiet.
Then—
Aren whispered:
"…So I'm a monster."
The man shook his head slowly.
"No."
A pause.
Then—
"You are the correction."
Aren's eyes widened.
And inside him—
The second heartbeat answered.
Loud.
Alive.
Unstoppable.
THUMP.
