Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

"I did not agree to this."

My voice came out sharper than I expected.

I was standing there barefoot, on cold tiles, wearing nothing but whatever was left from last night and I couldn't even fully remember last night.

Behind me, I heard a soft click.

"You agreed to this the moment you walked in."

I turned.

He was leaning against the wall like he'd been there the whole time. Calm. Way too calm. Watching me like he already knew what was going through my mind.

"I don't even know you," I said.

"That didn't stop you last night."

That hit.

Not fully but enough.

Bits and pieces flashed through my head. Loud music. Lights. Someone laughing me, maybe. A drink in my hand. Him, close. Too close.

I frowned. "I was drunk."

"You were targeted."

I paused.

"Wait…What?"

He straightened slightly, pushing off the wall and walking toward me. Slow. Like he wasn't in a hurry.

"You don't remember anything?" he asked.

"I remember just enough."

"Then say it."

I opened my mouth.

But nothing came out.

Because I didn't. Not really. Not in a way that made sense.

He gave a small nod, like that confirmed something for him. "Exactly."

That annoyed me more than it should've.

"I'm leaving," I said, stepping past him.

His hand caught my wrist before I went far.

Not rough. Just… enough to stop me.

"Bad idea."

I pulled my hand back. "Don't touch me!!!."

He let go immediately.

But he didn't move.

"Open the door," I said.

"No."

I stared at him. "You can't tell me that."

"I'm not stopping you for my fun," he said. "I'm stopping you because walking out right now would make things worse."

I let out a chuckle. "Worse than this? Really?"

He didn't react.

"That depends on what you think last night was," he said.

Something about that made my chest feel heavy.

"What happened last night?" I asked.

"You interfered."

"With what?"

Before he could answer, there was a knock.

Sharp. Not hesitant.

I froze.

"You expecting someone?" I asked.

"No."

Another knock. This time, Louder.

"Open the door."

A woman's voice. Calm, but not soft.

I looked at him. "Who is that?"

"Trouble."

"Great."

The knock came again. Slower this time.

"Open it," she said.

I looked back at him. "If you don't, I will."

"You won't."

I didn't answer. I just moved.

"Don't"

I ignored him and opened the door.

She walked in like she already knew she'd be let in.

Black dress. Simple, but not cheap. Everything about her looked intentional.

Her eyes landed on me straight .

Stayed there.

"Well," she said. "You're not who I expected."

I frowned. "Then you're in the wrong room."

She smiled a little. "No. I'm not."

I didn't like the way she was looking at me.

"Then say what you want and leave," I said.

That smile didn't go away. "I like you."

"That makes one of us."

She let out a quiet laugh. "That's unfortunate."

"Why?"

"Because you weren't supposed to be part of this."

My chest became heavy.

"I'm right here," I said. "So maybe explain what you mean."

She glanced past me at him. "You didn't fix it."

"There was nothing to fix," he said.

"There was," she replied. "You just didn't."

I exhaled sharply. "Can you both stop talking like I'm not standing here? Fix what?"

He stayed quiet.

She didn't.

"You took something that wasn't meant for you last night," she said, looking straight at me.

"I didn't take anything," I said immediately.

"Are you sure?"

"I had drinks. That's it."

"Whose drinks?"

I frowned. "What does that even mean?"

"It means," she said, stepping a little closer, "you drank something that wasn't meant for you."

Something about that didn't sit right.

"That doesn't mean anything," I said. "People share drinks all the time."

"It meant something last night."

The room felt smaller all of a sudden.

"What was in it?" I asked.

No one answered.

I looked at him. "What was in it?"

He hesitated. Then, "Something valuable."

"That's vague."

"That's all you're getting."

I looked back at her. "So what do you want from me?"

She studied me for a second.

"I'm trying to understand how you ended up where you weren't supposed to be," she said.

"I walked in," I said. "It's not complicated."

"It is," she said quietly.

Silence.

Then she added, "You were supposed to forget everything and move on."

My stomach turned.

"And now?"

"Now you're in the middle of something you don't understand."

I shook my head. "Then I'm leaving."

She didn't stop me.

Neither did he.

That should've bothered me more than it did.

I reached for the door and opened it.

And stopped.

Two men were standing outside.

Not hotel staff. Not guests.

Just… standing there. Watching.

One of them smiled at me.

It wasn't friendly.

I stepped back slowly, letting the door slip from my hand.

"Who are they?" I asked.

No answer at first.

Then he said, "The reason you're not leaving."

My stomach dropped. "I don't understand"

"You don't need to," she said.

Panic started creeping in. "No. I'm not staying here. I don't even know what this is"

My phone buzzed in my hand.

I frowned. I didn't even remember picking it up.

Unknown number.

I opened it.

Wrong girl.

My chest tightened.

Another message came in.

Fix it.

Then another.

Or she dies.

I stared at the screen.

"Tell me this is a joke," I said quietly.

No one said anything.

I looked up at them.

Something had changed.

They didn't look in control anymore.

And that's when it really hit me.

Whatever this was…

It had already gone wrong.

And somehow

I was the problem
