Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Racing Hearts and Hidden Threats

Sana had barely caught her breath after the café incident when her phone buzzed. A message flashed on the screen from an unknown number:

"We warned you. Step closer to him again, and it won't just be him who suffers."

Her stomach dropped. The threat was no longer vague — it was personal, directed at her.

By the time she reached college, she felt a weight pressing down on her chest. Every shadow, every passerby seemed suspicious. She tried to focus on her lectures, but her mind kept replaying Arjun's dark, protective gaze and the way he'd held her close just hours before.

During the afternoon, her shift at the café began. Arjun was already there, his usual charm present but tempered by seriousness. Every time their hands brushed — passing trays or wiping counters — Sana felt a jolt of electricity. She was drawn to him, yet terrified for both their sakes.

"Stay close to me today," Arjun whispered as he passed behind her, his hand brushing hers lightly. "No sudden movements, no surprises. Just… trust me."

"I trust you," Sana whispered back, though her heart thumped like a drum.

The café buzzed with the usual crowd until a sudden scream cut through the chatter. A masked figure burst in, wielding a metal rod, clearly intending to intimidate. The room froze.

Arjun moved in a flash. Within seconds, he had disarmed the intruder, using precise, controlled movements. Sana's eyes widened — he was faster, stronger, and more capable than she had ever imagined.

But before the intruder could be secured, another masked figure appeared near the exit, blocking any escape. Arjun's jaw tightened. "Stay behind me," he ordered, eyes scanning every corner.

Sana felt her pulse quicken, but she didn't move. Instead, she held onto the counter, watching him handle the threat with a combination of speed and calm focus that left her both terrified and in awe.

Once the intruders were restrained and the police alerted, Arjun finally exhaled. His hand found hers, holding it briefly but with a weight of unspoken concern.

"You're reckless," he murmured, voice low, darkened by worry. "You shouldn't have been here. It's not safe — not for you."

Sana's chest ached. "I wanted to help… I couldn't just stay away."

Arjun's eyes softened. "You're… fearless. And I can't stop caring about you, even if it's dangerous."

Their faces drew close, hearts pounding in unison. Sana leaned in, and he captured her lips in a passionate, lingering kiss. This time, there was no hesitation — only the urgency of unspoken emotions and the thrill of defying danger together.

But the moment was shattered by a faint metallic click — a sound that froze Sana's blood. She looked toward the café entrance to see the glint of a gun barrel reflecting the sunlight.

Arjun's eyes went wide, and he shoved her behind him instinctively, shielding her. His protective stance was fierce, and Sana's heart hammered — part fear, part admiration, part something deeper she couldn't name.

Cliffhanger: Who is the armed figure targeting them, and will Arjun be able to protect Sana in time? How far will their bond be tested when danger comes face to face with their love?
