In class a paper airplane flew across the classroom sky, and landed on my desk. It came from Jake's desk. I wonder what this is all about. I opened the airplane and inside it I found a short text saying: Come to the school's rooftop at 13:10 I wanna have a chat.
I thought it was very strange, what could he possibly be wanting from me. However, I'm afraid he might do something bad if I don't go.
The clock just hit 13:05 and class ended. I began walking to the rooftop. I didn't know what was waiting for me.
I arrived at the rooftop of the school, there Jake was standing watching out over the city.
"Um, hello?" I speak up, trying to gain his intention.
He turned around, staring me blanked in the eyes.
We were alone, completely alone. None of his friends were there to support him like before. I wonder, what is all this about?
"Before, you saved that kid. Why did you do that?" He asked me this, I didn't understand his intentions.
"Because, I just didn't want him to get hurt. Is there something wrong with that?"
"I see."
He took a step closer.
"Then, If something were to happen to you up here. Do you think anyone would come to save you?"
He asked me this, stepping even closer. I got worried so I decided to respond fast.
"No one is here, it's just you and me!"
At this point, he was standing approximately a half meter away from me. Before I knew it, I was looking straight up into the sky bent backwards with his fist hovering over me.
I quickly ducked forward under his arm and gave a quick push into his chest forcefully.
He probably didn't expect a counter-attack like this, so he fell on the ground without any warning.
"What the-"
Jake looked confused.
"Jake, you messed with Yoonsun and now me? You should know there are things you'll never understand."
"Dont be ridiculous, You were only luc-" Before he finished his sentence, I looked Into Jakes eyes with with the most killing intent i could muster.
He instantly withdrew, looking down on the ground with shame.
"Ill be going now."
Just as I turned around, a familiar voice was right in front of me echoing. It was Arisu.
"What happened here?" She asked.
"Nothing you wanna be involved in." I answered.
Arisu looked behind me, where she saw Jake sitting on the ground.
"What the.. what happened to him?! answer me or I'll call the teacher!"
Her threat limited my choice of answers.
"Arisu. Trust me it's nothing to be worried about."
Arisu walked to me, and then passed me straight towards Jake.
"Hello.. are you okay?" She said while looking down into Jake's eyes.
Jake looked up, with sparkles in his eyes almost like he had been crying.
"I..I didnt think it would turn out like this.." Jake muttered into Arisu's ear.
"How did you expect it to turn out then?"
"I.." Jake didn't find the word for it. So he stood up and began to walk into the school building again.
Arisu walked up to me, Her hand flashed across my face in a single motion.
"ouch!"
"You idiot! You think you can just walk up to people and beat them to the ground like that?"
"It's not what it looks like I promise."
"Be quiet, we are going to the teachers office later and settling this."
After Arisu said this, I didn't have a choice but to arrive at the teachers office. I opened the door to see 5 people: Jake, Arisu, Yoonsun and Jake's 2 friends.
Quietly walked over and sat beside Yoonsun. Ahead of us Atsuomi was sitting across the table and began asking questions,
"You children are so violent these days, what's the matter, what's happening?" After Atsuomi asked this one question Jake was the first person to speak up.
"I just wanted a normal conversation on the school rooftop but when he arrived he started beating me up."
What kind of nonsense is he talking about? I could sit still so I decided to be the next to speak,
"He brutally bullied Yoonsun first, then had me up on the roof to clearly beat me up? Isn't that right?"
"So you did that because he bullied Yoonsun?" Atsuomi proceeded to ask me.
"Yeah."
After this answer I heard a trembling voice beside my ear, It was Yoonsun who wanted to have his opinion on the matter,
"Daniel, why beat someone when our goal is peace? Because I just met you guys today.. we dont know anything about each other, and I have no conflicted feelings about any of you. So why do we have to continue this burden? It's unnecessary. Since kindergarten I've always been bullied for my size so there is no reason for you to fight for me. Instead you should let the teachers know and have them settle it."
After this, I didn't know how to respond. Yoonsun never wanted this to get violent so I guess it's all my fault? Are we here because of me?
Arisu's voice completely interrupted the silence,
"So you did it for a friend? you shouldn't look down on yourself for doing such a thing."
I didn't say it out loud, but somehow she knew.
"I admire people who stand up for their friends, don't forget that."
