Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Testing a Cockroach

When he woke up, the sun had already receded from its peak. Warm sunlight seeped through the window gaps, shining on his eyes.

It seems like he was still just a few months old, not even exceeding 4 months. He was conscious for about 3 hours this morning before he fell asleep. So little energy!

Perhaps it was caused by his high-intensity thinking this morning. It seems like he must limit this behaviour...

Xander looked around and realized that he was still on the sofa. In the background, he could see his mother tending the garden through the window.

It's clear that she was not paying attention to him.

An opportunity!

Xander hurriedly sat up and slowly but surely landed on the ground. The sofa was quite tall from his baby perspective, so to ensure the safety of his tender bones, just leaving the sofa took quite a while.

Panting, Xander tensed his tiny feet up and bravely landed on all four like a cat. His tiny legs quickly crawled, his babyish, beady eyes sharp and focused, searching for nametags.

As he searched the house, it had to be said that his mother was truly too meticulous. Even when his hands wandered around the usually dusty spots in a house, it was all smooth and clean.

After a few minutes, Xander's eyes lit up. In the kitchen, right behind a dishwasher beside the fridge, a conspicuous white tag appeared. It seems like these tags only appeared when he was near.

『Intelligent +0.05』

The attribute was five times the ant he encountered!

Xander quickly pushed through the little gap between the dishwasher and the fridge with his little body. After his head was deep enough, he finally saw what it was.

A cockroach innocently perked out its cute head, looking at him.

"F*ck!"

Xander cursed inwardly.

What else could you do to a cockroach but to kill it!?

Tame it? How are you gonna do it? Give it food?

Pet it? With his vulnerable juvenile immune system, even diarrhea could kill him, not to mention cockroaches riddled with countless bacteria.

Eat it? Do you think he's not human? Even a dog wouldn't eat it!

Xander held a complicated look in his eyes, his pupils glinted with a hint of struggle. The cockroach just stayed still, dumbly moving its antennas, unaware of the impending doom that will descend depending on the decision of the juvenile homo sapiens before it.

In the end, Xander sighed and gave up on this cockroach. It's fine if it was an ant, but attempting to eat a cockroach is clearly suicidal, stupid to the extreme.

Well, he could try to give it food. Perhaps it would do something.

After wandering around the kitchen, Xander found some leftovers in the trash can, but considering his weak baby tolerance, he didn't even dare to touch the cover.

In the end, after struggling to climb up the chair, he secured some crumbles on the kitchen table.

Xander panted as he returned to the spot.

Thankfully, the cockroach was still there. Xander was in a trance for a moment, wondering what the hell he is doing right now.

"Damn it, it better works!"

After placing the crumbs, he watched as the cockroach slowly approached the given food, and with a probing sniff, it pounced on it.

A few minutes have passed, and Xander's plump, baby face watched dumbly as the cockroach finished its meal, its dark brown body retreated, sometimes inexplicably stopped on its way, and then it would continue its stride.

And then... And then there's no then.

"Die!"

With a dark baby face, Xander cruelly swept the cockroach's dark brown body, like an indifferent deity who could not be concerned with a tiny ant, no longer caring whether his hands would catch the innumerable diseases the cockroach's body contained or not.

With a ruthless sweep, the cockroach's bead-shaped, dark brown body slides against the floor before ultimately landing on its shell, its body smashing against the dishwasher's corner, its legs helplessly and desperately trying to gain momentum to restore balance.

Unfortunately, its body anatomy was simply not designed to overturn the current situation...

It was also an unfortunate event for Xander, since behind him, Mimi was standing still, her fair face contorted into an inexplicable expression. Her brows are furrowed to the extreme, and her nose flared menacingly.

Her beautiful eyes, usually languid and gentle, are literally spitting fire.

Xander the baby, unfortunately, was doomed!!!

"Xander, you naughty little thing!!!"

After suffering another loving tap from his mother, Xander yawned and spent the rest of the day lazing around the couch, wincing every now and then. Originally, he was planning to search for more bugs in the house's yard. It was a shame that the sun had fallen.

Tomorrow, he will definitely search to his heart's content!

Soon, Xander was carried to his cradle. Mimi smiled lovingly as she pecked him on the cheek, rubbing his head, "Good night, little Xan."

The night quickly passed. When Xander opened his eyes, what greeted him was the enlarged face of his father, who smiled widely, "Morning, my little Xan!"

His father's face could be considered handsome. A masculine, sharp kind of handsome, with clean-shaved beard on his sharp jaw, thick well-maintained eyebrows and firm nose bridge. No wonder he could take on his fierce mother.

Xander tried to imagine if an effeminate handsome man approached his mother when she was young. He'd probably got socked in the guts.

Tsk tsk, she doesn't even spare me, her own son!

He also began to feel expectant. With a father like this, surely he would inherit his good genes. Hehe, good looks secured!

Just you wait, I'll definitely put my future looks to good use!

Xander pumped his fists inwardly, his mind wandering everywhere.

"Ah, little Xan seems to be... Somewhat smart," His father chuckled as little Xan's eyes turned bright when he saw him. Tsk, it seems like the son recognized his father's good looks!

With a smug gait, Xander's father slowly held Xan and cradled him in his arms, smiling gently as he walked out of the room. With Xan in his arms, his father swiftly entered the living room.

"What do you mean by that? An, what happened when he woke up?" Mimi asked from across the room, busying herself in the kitchen.

"Nothing," An, his father, smirked, intentionally appearing mysterious.

Xander cozily leaned on his father's firm arms. So father's name was An.

Xander, his name. Mimi, his mother's. An, his father's.

Hmm... His family is somewhat simplistic in naming.

Soon, after a round of breakfast, which his father attended this time around, An swiftly wore his jobsuit and pecked his mother on the cheek before leaving the house.

"Careful on the way, honey!"

"Take care, my love."

Xander slowly averted his eyes from this pink scene in his mother's arms. Tsk, dog food everyday.

It was approximately 8 o'clock in the morning. His family was quite early, already awake since before 8 in the morning. Xander's eyes lit up.

Perfect time to explore his weird nametags!

Xander tugged his mother's sleeve. Mimi looked down and smiled gently, not at all resembling the fierce mother she was just yesterday, and asked softly, "What is it, my little Xan?"

She was just attempting what she just said yesterday, trying to make her child get used to communication from his early days, but she didn't expect little Xan to lift his hand towards the garden, as if he understood her words.

Mimi widened her eyes and asked further, "Do you want to go to the garden?"

Seeing her little Xan nodding with his little baby head, Mimi was astounded.

"My baby... You actually understood me?!"

Holding back the urge an eye roll, Xander inwardly sighed in resignation. Abandon maturity, become baby!

Xander could only respond with a perfunctory nod, which, in his mother's eyes, was a confirmation that she thought was just a fluke.

"Oh my!"

After a series of excited exclamations and high-pitched screeches, Xander, who was listlessly listening to her chatters, was finally brought to the small garden adjacent to the living room.

Mimi, her face full of smiles, expertly equipped him with a pair of baby-sized shoes and safety clothes before putting him down, "My good little baby, go wild. My son is destined to be great! Hahahah!"

Mimi proudly puffed out her chest, already imagining the series of compliments she would get from her friends and relatives when she showed off her baby's 'amazing' intelligence.

Xander's baby mouth twitch. Damn it, being considered brilliant while showing a perfectly normal level of intelligence of a normal adult was really embarrassing.

Oh right, he is a baby. But still, damn it!

Silently cursing, Xander decided to go wild in this little garden from now on.

Not even my mother could stop me from playing willfully!

Spirit high, Xander straits were swift and brave, his trusty chubby limbs carrying him forward, heroically galloping towards the garden.

No insects and bugs would escape from my patrol today! Xander, finally deciding to fully integrate his mature self into this baby persona which was necessary to fool his parents, was truly unstoppable!

With adult intelligence and a baby physique, who could possibly stop him from conquering this small garden?!
