The party was over. The Serpents had retreated in shame. Jaxon found Yuna sitting on the roof of the library, looking at the stars.
"Math prodigy. Hacker. Pro-level racer," Jaxon said, sitting down beside her. He didn't look arrogant anymore. He looked defeated. "What else are you hiding, Yuna? Are you secretly a secret agent? An assassin?"
Yuna turned to him. In the moonlight, her glasses were off, and she looked ethereal. "Does it matter? In a few months, I'll be gone, and you'll go back to being the King of nothing."
Jaxon reached out, his fingers brushing a stray hair from her face. His heart, which usually felt nothing, was thundering. "I don't want to go back to that. I want to know why you're here. And I want to know... if there's any room in that 'Ares' heart of yours for a guy who's tired of being a King."
Yuna's breath hitched. For the first time, the "All-Rounder" didn't have a calculated response.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Thorne," she whispered, though she didn't pull away. "You haven't even seen my 'A' game yet."
