"Coward? Common brute?" I stepped closer, and she made the terrible mistake of not even bothering to retreat. "Seeing as you claimed your human scum as better, perhaps I should take a lesson from your human courts, then. Since they're so much more refined. So much more dignified."
My hand found her throat.
"Would you like me to show you how uncouth we truly can be?"
She went rigid. Her pulse hammered against my fingertips like a wild thing trying to escape.
It took everything in me to ignore the blood craving as I pushed, slowly backing her against the wall before she could even answer.
Her eyes widened as her back hit the wall with a soft thud. I followed, caging her in place with my body.
The warmth of her skin beneath my palm was distracting. The rapid flutter of her pulse was distracting. The way she had gone utterly, completely still was distracting.
I leaned closer.
