The dread I felt from what Slin had revealed to me about Paloma followed me for the next few days.
The new revelation about what she and Strome were had painted my memory of that visit in a depressing new light.
They had and bore children for the sole purpose of devouring them once they took their first breath.
I was not supposed to have lived.
I knew I shouldn't have trusted Paloma in the first place, but I hated how I still hoped they were wrong. I would be lying if I said it wasn't because she was my mother. I had never wanted for one, so why was I hoping they might have been wrong?
They had so many questions and were not even knowledgeable on what we were.
And with what Effer had revealed about the history of humans, why wouldn't it also be possible that there could have been higher forces tampering with their earlier records?
But the possibility of them being truthful had revealed another horrifying detail.
Strome was likely cultivating me for the same purpose.
