This was a familiar scene.
Past or present, Mason Crawford was always the same. Whenever he needed her, he would summon her with that same arrogant tone.
Back when Summer Thorne was still willing to call herself "Mrs. Crawford," she had played along with him twice.
But now, she had no obligation—and certainly no desire—to cooperate with him.
Summer Thorne pretended she hadn't seen or heard a thing and walked straight to her car.
A figure was standing by the rear of her car. As Summer Thorne drew near, he shifted slightly, moving to stand in front of her car door, apparently to block her from getting in.
Only then did Summer Thorne get a clear look. It was Evan Cheney.
"What do you want?" Summer Thorne asked.
Evan Cheney glanced in the direction of Mason Crawford's car and said in a low voice, "Mr. Crawford says he'd like to talk to you."
"Even if you work for him now, you should know I don't want to say a single word to him."
