After seeing the text message, Summer Thorne quickly looked away. She raised her glass to Timothy York as before, smiling as she clinked it against his.
Only when Timothy York set his glass down did he realize she had already downed hers in one go.
"Are we planning on drinking heavily tonight?" Timothy York asked. "If so, I'm afraid this bottle won't be enough."
Summer Thorne poured herself another glass. "Drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die," she said. "First come, first served."
With that, she tilted her head back and downed the second glass.
Timothy York simply watched her. As she was pouring her third glass, he called out, "Ava."
Summer Thorne's hand faltered as she poured. She set the bottle down, looked up at him, and sighed softly. "You know," she began, "after my father and aunt passed away, I thought no one would ever call me that name again... I guess there's still someone who does."
Timothy York could tell she wasn't talking about him.
