Hearing Xavier Lockwood finish his story about him and "Esther Hughes," Yara Keats was completely unmoved, feeling nothing at all.
Even when she heard that he had waited nine years for an answer he never received, she just snorted coldly and said, "Such an important answer. It must be agonizing not to have gotten it. But who besides that Miss Hughes could possibly give it to you? What a pity—"
She stopped there, a small smirk playing on her lips. The rest went without saying.
Xavier Lockwood didn't react, simply starting the car again.
Yara Keats had thought this was their final stop. When the car started moving again, she grew wary. "Where are you taking me now?"
"What are you afraid of?" Xavier Lockwood said. "You're just here to watch the show, aren't you?"
At his words, Yara Keats's expression tightened, but in the end, she didn't say anything more.
To her surprise, Xavier Lockwood drove her to Norvale Cemetery.
