The old woman's mind was a mess. Who was Silas Thorne? He wasn't someone she could simply summon. 'Could her mother or Kian have pulled some strings?'
'Why didn't the Jacobs Family handle this personally?'
'The reason?'
She vaguely recalled Joyce Monroe's 100-day celebration. The Thorne family elders had come to Graymoor in person, bringing their two grandsons with them. During the banquet, they had chatted and laughed, mentioning an old betrothal agreement with the Jacobs Family.
Because of an early agreement, the first child born was to take the Jacobs surname and inherit the Jacobs Group. The Thorne family's eldest son had already been born, and with Kian still in the womb, the families had said that if the baby was a girl, she would be betrothed to the Thorne's eldest son.
Back then, she had thought:
'This is a tremendous blessing.'
But as it turned out, the firstborn was a grandson.
