Los Angeles is located in southwestern California in the United States. It is the second-largest city in the United States and the largest on the West Coast, often called the "City of Angels."

It is also one of the country's primary bases for the petrochemical, maritime, aerospace, and electronics industries. Los Angeles is also home to many internationally renowned institutions of higher education, such as the California Institute of Technology, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, Pepperdine University, and others.
In 2014, the population of Los Angeles had reached 3.9 million. Of this population, 81.7% were native-born, while 11.2% were immigrants from other countries, of which the Chinese were the largest group, making up 7.1% of the total population.
