Megan Kane stood outside, unable to hear the conversation inside, so she decided to sneak closer.
She felt it was necessary to find out what the two of them were doing. 'After all, it's my duty and responsibility.'
'Besides, whatever my best friend is doing behind my back must be something good. It can't be anything I'm not allowed to hear. Maybe she's even planning a surprise for me.'
That was genuinely what Megan Kane had thought. But she never imagined that the words she would overhear would leave her utterly stunned.
She never would have guessed that her best friend wasn't preparing a surprise for her, but had been plotting her murder—a plot that had failed.
"I did ask you to do this, that's right. But now you're threatening me, which makes *you* the one in the wrong. Do you understand?"
"I don't think we can continue this conversation, don't you agree? Our ways of thinking are completely irreconcilable. Why don't you try seeing things from my perspective for a change?"
