"Dr. Qin, I have a plan that's completely different from Cheng Feng's."
Wu Ting wasn't swayed just because Cheng Feng had proposed a highly-rated plan.
Qin Donglai, Luo Ming, and Cheng Feng were all a bit surprised to hear that Wu Ting had a completely different plan.
Cheng Feng was a little skeptical. 'Could it be that Wu Ting has also studied tendon suturing?'
"Tell us about it. This is a consultation, after all. It's best to have different approaches."
Dr. Qin gestured for Wu Ting to continue, and Wu Ting nodded.
"First, regarding the analysis of the patient's condition, I completely agree with Cheng Feng's assessment. However, our treatment philosophies are different. His leans toward the international cutting edge, requiring superb surgical skills, complex equipment and materials, and a minimally or even non-invasive approach. My plan, on the other hand, aims for simplicity—the fewer instruments, the more straightforward the procedure, and the shorter the recovery time."
Hearing Wu Ting's treatment philosophy, Qin Donglai and Cheng Feng were both a little confused.
This was especially true for Cheng Feng, who had studied tendon suturing in great depth.
"Wu Ting, I don't believe there's a method that's both simple and allows for fast recovery. What kind of suturing technique are you using?"
Cheng Feng remained skeptical.
Wu Ting calmly explained, "Just like your plan, I'm also using a modified tendon suturing technique I created myself. I call it the 'Modified Tendon Suture with Kirschner Wire Fixation.'"
"Kirschner Wire?"
Qin Donglai, Cheng Feng, and Luo Ming were all stunned to hear the name of Wu Ting's plan.
For Qin Donglai in particular, who was quite accomplished in tendon suturing himself, this consultation was proving to be incredibly fruitful. He had thought Cheng Feng was impressive enough, but now Wu Ting had delivered another surprise.
Only Luo Ming fell silent. 'Everyone else is showing off, and I'm the only one getting beaten down.'
"Explain the specifics?"
Qin Donglai listened eagerly.
"The core idea of this plan is specifically designed for the retraction of the tendon ends in a re-rupture. I'll insert a 1mm Kirschner Wire along the longitudinal axis of the arm. This wire fixation will solve the problem of muscle and tendon retraction. After tightening the tendon, the Kirschner Wire will hold it in a fixed state."
"Then, I'll use a modified Kessler suture technique to prevent excessive tension on the tendon and reduce the probability of post-operative re-rupturing and adhesions."
"With the fixation provided by the Kirschner Wire, the biggest advantages are increased tensile strength of the joint, easier knotting and fixation, and minimal suture reaction."
"Post-operatively, the affected limb will be immobilized in an extended position with an aluminum splint. This ensures the patient cannot move it on their own for four to six weeks, maximizing the recovery outcome."
After hearing Wu Ting's plan, Qin Donglai, Cheng Feng, and Luo Ming were all taken aback.
"What a crude surgical plan."
"What a simple surgical plan."
"What a down-to-earth surgical plan!"
"What a clever surgical plan!"
After a moment, the three of them came to terms with the plan. They really hadn't expected Wu Ting to use a Kirschner Wire.
Cheng Feng was still not entirely convinced. "While your plan is simple and reliable, there's one problem. After implanting a Kirschner Wire, the patient will definitely have a very noticeable scar on their arm, which will be aesthetically unpleasing. And, and..."
Wu Ting finished Cheng Feng's sentence for him, "And, it seems very crude, like a folk remedy you'd only see used in a small clinic to save money."
Cheng Feng nodded, acknowledging Wu Ting's frankness.
"Exactly. That's why I think my surgical plan is more appropriate for an operating room at our City First Hospital. If we go with my plan, not only can we showcase cutting-edge medical technology, but we can also guarantee the patient a nearly non-invasive treatment outcome."
"My surgical plan is the one that brings both fame and fortune!"
Hearing Cheng Feng's words, Luo Ming and Qin Donglai both showed their agreement. Indeed, comparing the two plans, Cheng Feng's was the one that was more presentable.
Wu Ting's plan seemed too much like something a barefoot doctor or a third-rate clinic would resort to out of desperation.
Cheng Feng was very pleased to see both Luo Ming and Qin Donglai supporting him.
As the three were discussing, Huo Yun rushed in.
"Director Huo, you're here. Perfect timing. We were just discussing the surgery for Ma Weiguo's re-ruptured tendon. Wu Ting and Cheng Feng have each proposed a plan. Both have their own merits..."
Qin Donglai gave him a summary of both plans.
After hearing both plans, Huo Yun looked at Wu Ting with surprise.
"Wu Ting, can you explain why you chose such a plan?"
Wu Ting was prepared for this.
"I proposed this 'crude' plan because, during my conversation with the patient, I learned that his family is not well-off financially. The reason Ma Weiguo didn't listen to his daughter and tried to use his hand prematurely was so he could get back to work sooner and lessen his daughter's burden."
"The old man is stubborn and disobedient, but he's just trying to protect his family in his own way."
"It's probably that older generation's mindset of being willing to endure hardship to silently provide for their children."
"Faced with an elderly man like him and his family's circumstances, what came to my mind was to use a simpler plan with the lowest surgical cost and the shortest recovery period."
"As for so-called aesthetics, like being scar-free... I think anyone who has seen Ma Weiguo's rough, calloused hands wouldn't hold him to the standards of a beauty salon. I'm sure the patient won't mind a small lack of cosmetic perfection."
"This was the entire thought process behind my surgical plan. I just hope to prevent the old man from spending a fortune on another surgery and losing sleep over the cost, or feeling guilty toward his daughter for spending so much money."
After hearing Wu Ting's reasoning,
Cheng Feng, Qin Donglai, and Luo Ming finally understood Wu Ting's good intentions.
Huo Yun looked at Wu Ting with immense gratification and patted him on the shoulder.
"Good kid. For a young man to have this level of consideration... Wu Ting, you have my utmost respect!"
"We'll go with Wu Ting's plan for Ma Weiguo's surgery."
Huo Yun made his decision. After speaking, he turned to Cheng Feng.
"Cheng Feng, on a certain level, your surgical plan is indeed more advanced, more cutting-edge, and has more promotional value. But as doctors, we are not here to show off our skills. Our purpose is simply to treat patients and save lives."
"The plan that gets to the heart of the matter is the best plan. And clearly, Wu Ting's plan is the best one for Ma Weiguo."
"However, both of you are excellent. It's a blessing for our City Hospital to see such outstanding rising stars like you."
Cheng Feng cupped his fist to Wu Ting.
"Wu Ting, I'm truly impressed. I never thought to consider the problem from that angle. That was an oversight on my part. You've taught me a lesson!"
Watching the high-spirited Cheng Feng and Wu Ting, Luo Ming suddenly felt ashamed of himself.
'Still, it's an honor to have doctors like them in my profession!'
