Seraphina froze completely.
She didn't quite understand why Elias Sommers had said that, so she asked Damian Fairchild as he walked over, "What did Sommers mean by that?"
But Damian completely ignored her.
He walked right past her without even a glance.
Seraphina had no choice but to run after him. "What was that about you spending two hundred million to pave the way for me…?"
Perhaps annoyed by her persistence, he finally stopped and glanced back.
"There are a million better things I could do with two hundred million. Why would I insist on throwing it at you? If I skipped a stone across the water, at least I'd hear a splash. What kind of reaction would I get from you?"
Damian's words were cruel, and Seraphina felt she'd brought the humiliation on herself.
She swallowed hard and straightened her spine to look him in the eye. "I hope for your sake you didn't." She paused. "There will be nothing between us besides our arrangement. No other connection."
