The man's aura suddenly darkened, and the pressure he exuded grew cold and sharp.
Seraphina Quinn shoved him away, scrambling back several steps.
Her eyes darted away, and though the panic within them vanished in an instant, Damian Fairchild had already caught it.
But she quickly concealed it, her expression turning cold and sharp as she looked at him.
"So, Fairchild is truly interested in me, it seems? That's right. The real Yara Quinn died in a car accident many years ago. Her parents were heartbroken, and since I happened to look so much like their daughter, they adopted a helpless orphan like me as their goddaughter."
She paused, adding pointedly, "If Fairchild doesn't believe me, feel free to keep investigating."
Damian Fairchild replied, "That won't be necessary. I believe you, Miss Yara." He paused. "How can people not have even the most basic trust in one another?"
Seraphina Quinn let out a breath of relief, but her face remained grim.
