He was silent for a moment, his throat working. In the end, he simply said, "If that's the case, then I have nothing more to say. Have a safe journey."
"Okay," Seraphina said, and hung up on Damian Fairchild.
She was in a bustling airport, surrounded by people coming and going, yet she was overcome with the feeling of being utterly alone, abandoned.
She stood motionless in the departure hall for a long, long time.
The days that followed passed quickly.
The first thing Seraphina did upon returning to Aurelium was to get her uncle, Wyatt Quinn, settled.
Wyatt Quinn's mind was severely damaged; he now had the mental capacity of a four- or five-year-old.
But, miraculously, he still remembered Seraphina.
So, when Seraphina walked into his hospital room, he called out her nickname over and over again.
"Seraphina."
"Seraphina, want some candy?"
"Eat candy! Candy is sweet! Seraphina loves candy!"
