'I've never seen someone so headstrong!'
Manager Fu had a very good impression of Yang Hui.
He was capable, neither arrogant nor impatient, and humble to everyone. The only downside was that you'd better not cross him. If you did, you were guaranteed to have a bad time.
She had always thought that Yang Hui becoming the regional general manager was a win-win for both him and the company.
'So why the sudden resignation?'
"Manager Fu, I'll leave this in your hands, then."
Yang Hui's words snapped Manager Fu out of her thoughts. At the same time, she understood that his decision was final, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of regret.
She nodded and said, "I'll handle it personally. I'll bring you whatever needs to be signed in a bit."
He left President Zhao's office with Manager Fu.
She sighed and asked, "Are you sure you won't reconsider?"
"I've already made up my mind. Thank you."
Along the way, his colleagues greeted Yang Hui enthusiastically, a complete change from the morning.
He smiled and nodded at each of them, but his heart was unmoved.
He could still hear many people mocking Fang Zheng. But he was sure that tomorrow, when they found out he had resigned and Fang Zheng was the acting general manager, their tunes would change in an instant.
'So, there's no need to care about any of this. If you want people to respect you, you just have to keep winning.'
He called Yang Na in again.
This caused the other female supervisors in the Operations Department to glance over. It seemed Yang Na had been receiving extra favor these past two days.
'Could it be because she didn't attend Fang Zheng's banquet last night? Did she make the right bet and win?'
"Yang Na, there's something I need to tell you first. Everyone else should see the email notification after work."
"Go ahead, sir."
With her oval face, pretty whether she was pouting or pleased, she was in an excellent mood.
"I'm resigning. Today is my last day at the company."
It was as if a bomb went off in her head.
The news struck her like a bolt from the blue.
Yang Na's face went pale. She seemed unsteady on her feet and took a few ragged breaths before saying, "Sir, you can't be serious!"
"I never joke about things like this. I'm serious."
She stared intently into his eyes. A minute later...
"Why?"
'I don't get it,' she thought. 'You were just promoted to general manager. Why would you quit?'
"I suddenly felt like quitting, so I decided to be headstrong for once while I'm still young."
"Yang Na, you need to do well from now on. If you have any problems liaising with the major shopping malls, you can still tell me. I can still help you solve some things."
'Even though I'm not with Ruijing Commerce anymore, my relationships with Zhang Chun and President Tian are still intact. I still have enough clout to get some things done.'
"I don't want to work here anymore either. Find someone else to be the operations manager."
"Are you crazy?"
Yang Hui cursed at her angrily, his voice rising slightly.
"If you can be headstrong, why can't I? I'm quitting, and that's final! I'm going to hand in my resignation letter right now!"
Yang Hui was about to swear.
'I'm quitting because I need to bind with the "Unemployment Aid System" for a better future.'
'You're just quitting out of spite. That's not what a wise person would do!'
But he couldn't explain that to her.
He tried to persuade her gently, "I have better arrangements. Don't be impulsive."
"You have better arrangements, and you're not taking me with you?"
Uh... He was at a loss for words. He couldn't very well say that he hadn't even figured out his own arrangements yet. 'What kind of "better arrangements" would that be?'
"Give it some time. Once things are stable on my end, I'll let you know, and you can consider it then. How about that?"
Yang Na shook her head. "I'm definitely not going to be the operations manager. Wherever you go, you're taking me with you. I told you, I'm sticking with you!"
Ignoring Yang Hui's attempts to persuade her further, she turned and left, tears welling in the corners of her eyes.
He sighed. 'This girl is even more headstrong than I am.'
The female supervisors outside saw Yang Na come out of Yang Hui's office crying and couldn't figure out what was going on.
"Do you think the boss tried to sleep with her? Why else would she be crying?"
"Are you stupid? If the boss wanted to sleep with her, she'd be thrilled. Why would she be crying?"
"That's true. Yang Na's been eyeing the boss for a long time."
After a while, Yang Na sat up straight, her eyes red and swollen.
She glanced in the direction of Yang Hui's office, stood up, and walked with determined steps toward HR.
"Manager Fu!"
"Ah, Yang Na, come in! I haven't had a chance to congratulate you yet! Your boss's final recommendation was for you to take over as operations manager. President Zhao has already approved it and reached a consensus with headquarters' HR!"
With a sad smile, she said, "Manager Fu, I want to resign."
'What the...?'
Manager Fu felt her world spinning. In her ten-plus years in HR, she had never encountered something like this, let alone twice in the same day.
'Is today April Fool's Day?'
'No, it's not!'
"Yang Na, listen to me. This is a rare opportunity. Don't do something foolish!"
"Manager Fu, my mind is made up."
'As expected of someone from his department. As expected of someone trained by Yang Hui!'
'The same stubborn streak!'
'What should I do? What should I say?'
"I'll start the process for you, but you know the company's policy. You have to stay for at least another month."
"You can't compare yourself to Manager Yang. He was a special case; President Zhao reported it all the way up to the CEO. Your situation can't be handled the same way."
Yang Na could understand that. 'Well, another month of torment it is,' she thought.
Manager Fu brought the resignation paperwork to Yang Hui's office and handed it to him with no small amount of regret.
"Manager Yang, once you sign this, your resignation will be official."
"Okay. Thank you for your support."
"I'll send out the email after work hours."
After the reversals of last night and today, if the news of Yang Hui's resignation were to leak now, it would likely send the company into an uproar.
It was better to let everyone digest it slowly after they went home. Yang Hui wouldn't be coming in tomorrow, so he wouldn't have to face the inevitable cold shoulders.
He began packing up his personal belongings, the things he would be taking with him.
Just then, there was another knock on the door.
Looking at Yang Na and her slightly swollen eyes, Yang Hui felt a pang of guilt.
'I've really done her a disservice.'
"I've already submitted my resignation. If you don't take me with you, I'll just lie flat at home!"
Yang Hui gave a wry smile. "Why do you have so much faith in me? What if I can't offer you better pay or a better position than what you have here?"
"I'm following you, period. The rest is up to you."
He rubbed his chin. 'All right then. I didn't even do anything, and now I'm responsible for her.'
"I'll help you pack."
With that, she walked over to Yang Hui's side, bent down, and began taking out his personal items one by one from the cabinet below his desk.
She was wearing a V-neck top, and as she bent over, Yang Hui got an eyeful.
The shape of Yang Na's breasts was much more beautiful than Qin Hong's. Her skin was also fairer and more delicate, so much so that he could even see the faint blue veins beneath it.
She suddenly looked up, startling Yang Hui so much that he quickly turned his head away.
"If you want to look, then look properly. It won't be so convenient to look tomorrow."
'Was I just caught red-handed?'
He turned to look again. This time, she had changed her angle, crouching down with her back to him.
The pleats of her skirt suddenly stretched tight across her lower back, creating two breathtaking curves—the kind of waist-to-hip ratio that could only be achieved through years of yoga.
As the tips of her hair brushed against the nape of her neck, a few stray strands swayed in the air-conditioned breeze, revealing a small, cinnabar-colored mole behind her ear.
