Ruby Sawyer never imagined that the fourth-class dinner would be just white rice and pickled vegetables.
The lavish eight-course meal with soup at the next table made her own situation seem even more pathetic by comparison.
"Ah! The third-class meal is all vegetables? I don't see a single bit of meat!" Iris Yates cried out in despair.
Stir-fried greens, tofu and vegetable soup, and a plate of hot and sour shredded potatoes!
Although the spread looked decent, an all-vegetarian meal was pure torture for someone who couldn't live without meat.
Iris Yates's eyes landed on the table labeled "First-Class," and she started drooling at the exquisite eight-course meal with soup. "Wow! They have braised pork trotter with soybeans, braised chicken with bamboo shoots, stir-fried beef, and lotus root and pork rib soup! This is the life!"
