"You mean he did it with you?" Shalma Hughes wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole, or that someone would just knock her unconscious. This truth was too brutal; it far exceeded her capacity to accept. She simply couldn't accept it!
"Mr. Winslow is truly a good man. I can tell he cares a lot about you, Miss Hughes," Mrs. Lewis sighed with emotion. It was rare enough for a man to be willing to do such a thing for a woman, but for someone like their employer, it was practically a miracle. If he wasn't sincere, how could he have gone to such lengths?
Hearing Mrs. Lewis's words, Shalma could only force a stiff smile. She couldn't find the words to clarify the situation. After everything he had done for her, any explanation would seem pale and feeble. It was a good thing she had been unconscious yesterday, otherwise, she probably would have bitten her tongue to end her own life out of pure mortification.
