Annelise Valentine was at a complete loss for words. She had clearly been trying to talk about calling off the engagement, but Jett Westgate had twisted it into her "preparing a surprise."
But Ruby Lynn had already interrupted her with a smile. "Alright, alright, you silly girl. Don't play coy after getting your way. Go on now, hm?" After speaking, she pulled Evelyn Sutton toward the side hall.
Annelise turned and glared at the composed Jett Westgate. "You did that on purpose?"
Jett Westgate raised an eyebrow slightly, meeting her gaze. "Uh-huh. And so what if I did?"
Annelise was overcome by the baffling feeling of having punched a wad of cotton.
'Forget it.' She looked away, telling herself.
Making a scene now would only make things more awkward. It was just an engagement, not a wedding, after all. Before they actually took that final step... there was still room to maneuver.
