When she finished speaking, the tent fell completely silent.
Miles Morgan was silent for a few seconds before he laughed—a deep, complex sound.
"Young lady, if you want status, you don't need to go through all this trouble. You're Jett's fiancée. Marry him and move to Aethelgard, and you'll have everything."
"Secretary Morgan, I did want to marry him before, but that's in the past. Now, there are too many people and things standing between us. It wouldn't be right anymore..."
She trailed off.
But Miles Morgan understood what she left unsaid.
"Sigh... I can't say I understand how you young people view love these days. But child, allow me to overstep. Some things just have to be let go. What couple gets through life without arguing?
My wife and I certainly caused our share of trouble back in the day. We'd fight eight times a day, regret it, and then start all over again."
