She raised her hand and roughly wiped away her tears with the back of it.
'Didn't you win? What are you crying for?'
She took a deep breath, turned around, and looked at the red plane. Zane Patterson stood behind her, waiting quietly.
She looked back, her gaze lingering on Jett Westgate.
The airport lights shone from behind, bathing him in a cold glow that created a silvery halo around his silhouette. He just stood there, motionless, his posture ramrod straight, seemingly possessed of an innate pride and loneliness.
'He was so incredibly handsome.'
'So handsome you couldn't tear your eyes away.'
She stared at him for a few seconds, as if trying to sear this image of him into her memory.
The night breeze swept away the last trace of hesitation in her eyes.
"Jett Westgate, goodbye," she said softly.
With that, she turned and began to climb the boarding stairs.
Zane Patterson glanced at Jett Westgate, said nothing, and silently followed behind her.
