Zane Patterson listed off, "A crib, stroller, diapers, baby bottles, a bottle warmer, a sterilizer, a baby tub, bath towels, burp cloths..."
"Oh, right. I also had a Buddha statue from back home specially consecrated."
"I found you during the earthquake thanks to a Buddha statue, and you were unhurt because of its protection. It feels like we have a special connection to it, so I thought I'd get one for the house, to watch over our family and keep us safe."
Zane Patterson cradled the Buddha statue, found a spot on the living room bookshelf, and carefully placed it down.
After setting down the statue, he turned back to her. "How about it? Is this a good spot?"
"Yes, it's perfect."
Annelise had actually been planning to do the same thing, but since most people here were Christian, she hadn't been able to find a Buddha statue. It turned out she and Zane were on the exact same wavelength.
