Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Satisfaction of Raising a Cub

Holly's lips parted. She let go of the tuft of tail fur she was fiddling with and walked over to Silas Thornton, taking out her phone. "Why did you bring me here? I thought we were going to deal with the nanny situation. Aren't we reporting it to the police?"

Silas Thornton looked at the screen, his brows knitting slightly. "I've already notified the legal department to file a lawsuit. You just need to sign in a bit."

'What's the point of calling the police? For people who take the money and run, the police can't do much even if their assets are frozen. Only the court can enforce the recovery of property. Besides, just getting the money back isn't enough. She needs to end up in a jail cell! Once the cub signs today, we'll submit the complaint to the court, and the case will probably be closed after school starts. That damn nanny actually made my cub rummage through trash for two years!! If it weren't for the constraints of human law, I'd really punish her the Wolf Clan way!! Hmph!'

Holly paused. She really wanted to explain that she had NOT been rummaging through trash!!!

What on earth gave Silas Thornton that impression!!?

And… what exactly was the Wolf Clan's method of punishment?

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK… A knock sounded at the door.

"Come in." Silas glanced up toward the door.

Holly followed his gaze.

Quinn Zeller came in, holding a folder of documents.

Quinn placed the documents on the desk, pushed them toward Silas, and thoughtfully handed Holly a pen. "President Thornton, Miss Wyatt, the complaint and supporting evidence have been drafted. We just need Miss Wyatt's signature to submit them to the court."

Silas opened the folder and scanned through it. After a careful look, he turned the documents around and pushed them in front of Holly with one hand. "Looks good. Just sign it."

Holly pursed her lips, her fingertip resting on the pen cap. She pulled the documents toward her and flipped through them briefly.

It was a thick, professional-looking stack of papers—thicker than all the case files from when she reported it to the police, put together.

Heat pricked at Holly's eyes, and her vision began to blur.

She sniffled softly and, on the line for the plaintiff, solemnly signed her name.

The tips of Silas's ears twitched as he caught the faint hitch in Holly's breath.

'Is the cub crying?! Damn it all!! That nanny must have done more than just steal the money and run. Did she abuse my cub, too?! Why else would she cry over just signing something?! Yes! Making my cub rummage through trash for two years! That IS abuse! I'm so furious!! I'm definitely going to punish her the Wolf Clan way!! AWOO~ AWOO~ I'll tear her to shreds!! AWOO~ AWOO~'

Hearing his righteous indignation, the sense of hurt Holly felt completely vanished.

She blinked back the tears, a faint smile touching her lips.

Holly handed the signed documents to Quinn Zeller.

Quinn took them respectfully with both hands. After giving them both a slight nod, he departed with the folder.

The office fell silent.

"You were crying?" Silas's dark eyes were fixed on Holly, his tone icy. "Why?"

Holly blinked hard, suppressing the last of her tears. She walked around the desk to stand in front of Silas, her lips pressed into a firm line as she stared intently at him.

'AHHH!!! The cub has dark circles under her eyes!! She's had her hair down covering her face all morning, so I can't believe I'm only seeing them now!! She must not have slept well last night because she wasn't used to the bed! This is terrible! I'll have Quinn find someone to move the bed from the downtown penthouse to the manor right away! Lack of sleep will stunt her growth!'

Holly couldn't help but laugh, her eyes curving into crescents.

Silas spoke stiffly, "Didn't you sleep well last night? You look exhausted."

Holly pursed her lips and shook her head.

She paused, realizing Silas might actually have the bed from the penthouse moved to the manor, and quickly typed, "The bed in the manor bedroom is very comfortable. I slept very well."

'Huh? Really? She doesn't have trouble with a new bed? It doesn't look like it. The cub didn't have dark circles yesterday, so how did she get them after just one day with me? Am I doing a bad job raising her? Waaaah… Her eyes aren't red, but the space between her brows is. You can tell she cried but held it in. She must be in a terrible mood now. It's all my fault, damn it!'

Holly lowered her gaze, picked up her phone, and began to type with a solemn expression.

'Uh oh, is the cub mad? This is the first time I've seen her type so slowly with such a serious expression. It's over, it's over. I'm about to get schooled by the cub!'

Holly held up her phone, holding the screen right up to Silas's face. "Thank you. Thank you for everything you've done."

She had typed and deleted her message of thanks several times, but the words still couldn't fully express the gratitude in her heart.

In the end, she deleted the long message, leaving only the simplest, most heartfelt words.

She knew Silas would understand.

After all, he was a very perceptive person.

'Eh? Thanking me for what? This is all stuff I should be doing. She's my cub, after all. Cubs are very precious and hard to raise. If she's been wronged, we have to strike back. Otherwise, what if she grows up maladjusted? This is all part of her psychological upbringing.'

'Wait… Does this mean the cub thinks I'm raising her well??? HAHAHAHA, is this proof that I'm great at raising cubs!! HAHAHA, raising a cub is the best!'

Holly's somewhat heavy heart was quickly lightened by Silas's wild and zany thoughts.

She lowered her gaze to the sentence on her phone and chuckled softly.

'I guess I really can't use human logic to figure out the thoughts of this… King of Wolves.'

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK… There was another knock at the office door.

"Come in," Silas said, looking towards the entrance.

Several male assistants walked in, carrying easels that were half as tall as a person.

'Yay, yay, yay~ The drawing boards are here! Seriously, I only bought tens of thousands of them yesterday, and they were already sold out. These had to be shipped in from the next city over. I wonder if they're any good. I'll have the cub try one out in a bit.'

Holly stared, wide-eyed and speechless, as the men bustled around, placing the easels they were carrying in various corners of the office.

「Three minutes later.」

Holly stared at the children's magnetic easels, which looked completely out of place in the office, her expression one of stunned silence.

A childish, whimsical atmosphere filled the stark, cold space. It was a comical, yet strangely heartwarming sight.

Quinn stood by the door, taking inventory of the easels.

A moment later, he walked over to Silas, tablet in hand. "President Thornton, I've finished the count. Three hundred are here in the office. That leaves two thousand. Should we send them all to the penthouse?"

Silas mulled it over for a moment before looking at Holly. "When school starts, are you going to live in the dorms or live at the manor?"

Holly picked up a small drawing board that had just been placed on the desk and wrote, "I'll stay in the dorms."

'The atmosphere in the dorm wasn't the best, but it was convenient. Besides, living there wouldn't cause Silas too much trouble.'

'As for her three rather peculiar roommates, she could just keep ignoring them like she always did.'

Holly glanced at the board in her hands, then at all the others scattered around the office.

'For her, these boards were a convenience.'

'For Silas, they were a hassle.'

'She didn't understand business, but she knew Thornton Corporation's net revenue exceeded a hundred million per second. Time was incredibly important to a man like Silas. He shouldn't be wasting it on such trivial matters, and he definitely shouldn't be wasting it on a human like her—a human who wasn't even a real cub.'
