When the first wave of immigrants arrived at the border of the Grey Marsh Territory, all they saw was an endless expanse of wasteland.
Kane held his wife's hand. Their two older children trailed behind them, and his wife, Mara, carried their youngest on her back.
A cold wind swept by, stirring up the withered grass. Everyone instinctively pulled their thin clothes tighter.
"This… is the Grey Marsh Territory?" a man from his hometown asked hoarsely, his voice thick with undisguised disappointment.
"What about the city in the brochures? Where is it?"
No one answered.
The soldier leading them was a man of few words. After a quick headcount, he simply waved for them to follow.
The group trudged forward in silence. The children, however, found everything novel, their playful laughter only deepening the adults' gloom.
Kane's heart sank. He recalled the beautiful brochure.
'Could this really be a scam?'
