The hair on the back of Maeve Walsh's neck stood on end as a bone-chilling cold shot up her spine. She sensed someone approaching from behind. The door was right in front of her, and beyond it, the gunwale led to the fore and aft decks.
And Jason Sterling and Tiana Lynch were on the deck.
She would never let Maeve Walsh set foot on that deck.
Maeve Walsh had just managed to step over the threshold, half her body out on the gunwale. The moment she hastily turned back, her pupils contracted. Her eyes flew so wide they looked like they might split, filled with nothing but the sight of Sue Lawrence's face—inches away and utterly devoid of warmth.
"You... H-how are you here? You're supposed to be…"
"Supposed to be at home, watching over that little brat, waiting for the apocalypse to arrive and leave me for dead?"
Sue Lawrence suddenly smiled. It was a faint smile, but her eyes held not a trace of warmth.
