Chapter 1 - The Imperfect Hero

Um… how should I start this…? My name is Kazuki and I'm 16 years old. I'm a complete loser with no social life. My only life is fiction. Specifically, anime, manga, light novels, and visual novels. But don't judge me wrong, I'm not a NEET. I do go to school after all… But I'm pretty much invisble to everyone there. I wasn't a loser before, but ever since that EVENT happened (which I would rather not talk about), I became isolated from society.

I mean, being alone isn't that bad since society dictates how we live. Society says that disappointments shouldn't be happy so I guess I should follow that rule. I don't fit into the criteria for a normal person so I guess I'm not allowed to be happy… but I guess I'm not truly alone. I do live with my 14 year old little sister Amelia, but that's pretty much it. I don't live with my mom and dad, but I'll rather not talk about them…

I guess that's it about me. There's nothing else interesting about my life since I'm such a disappointment… I'll just go back to playing this visual novel on my computer…

But then… A GIRL SUDDENLY CRASHED THROUGH MY ROOF!?!?

"WHAT THE HELL?!"

Of course I was shocked. She slowly stood up and dusted herself off… no bruises or injuries at all… how the hell?…

She's wearing a sliver dress and has long sliver hair with two silver eyes… and her boobs seem to be a C cup. Wait, is her boob size really that important to profile about her?…

"Hey, are you Kazuki?" the sliver haired girl asked.

I'm still in shock but I spoke out.

"Uh… yes…"

Wait… how does she know my name?… Is she some kind of spy or assassin sent out to kill me?… But wouldn't make sense since she just crashed through my roof, which would bring a lot of attention…

"Ah! Then you must be the chosen one! Kazuki you're the chosen one I been looking for! Hehe!"

Chosen one?… what is she talking about…?

"W-what do you mean?… I'm chosen for what?"

The sliver hair girl responded to me. "You're chosen to save the world!"

"Save the world?" I asked confused. "How can I save the world?… I'm just some random guy… I'm not a hero or anything…"

The sliver haired girl quickly countered me. "Oh but you are! You will ultimately save rhe world and everyone will be happy! Now let me tell you how. You have to come with me and find these magical crystals. Once we have gathered enough, we can make a wish. The wish will be to erase The Spirit Of Gravity from existence. Then the world will be saved and everyone will be happy!"

"The Spirit Of Gravity?… magical crystals…? What the actual hell are you talking about?…"

She seems crazy…

"Hmm… you don't belive me?…"

"Oh course I don't belive you. You sound like someone from the psych ward."

The sliver haired girl frowned.

"Ok then I guess I have to make you believe!"

The sliver haired girl did a pose (she probably thought it was a cool pose, but it actually made her look like a weirdo)

"I am Elara! A goddess who was born from the human mind! A ultimate and eternal goddess who possess divine power! And watch as I show you my power!" The sliver haired girl declared.

She then summoned several spoons out of thin air and flew them around the room lined them up above her head, before making them disappear.

"!!!" I was at a lost for words… she must really be a goddess then! She has the power to create things out of think air!

"Hehe… now are you convinced?" Said the sliver haired girl.

"Y-yeah…"

Then I must really be the chosen one! Maybe… maybe my life isn't completely worthless if a goddess is calling me the chosen one!

"So what kind of goddess are you? I'm guessing you're the goddess of metal? Since your design is sliver themed, and you did just create and control a bunch of spoons…"

"Hehe… nope. I'm even better! I am the goddess of…"

*Drumrolls*

"The goddess of SPOONSSS!"

Huh?…

"Seriously…? Spoons?" I said disappointed

"Yep! You must be amazed that you have met such an amazing and incredible goddess!" The sliver haired girl said.

"Wait… why am I still being called "sliver haired girl" in this story when I already stated my name! My name is Elara!" Said the sliver haired girl.

Ugh, a lame ass goddess… and she's being cliché with a metafictional joke…

Elara spoke to me again. "Anyways, as I said before, you have to come with me and find magical crystals that can grant any wish. Once we have gathered enough, we can make that wish. The wish will be to erase The Spirit Of Gravity from existence. Then the world will be saved! The Spirit Of Gravity is a primordial being who will destroy all of creation itself! He's currently asleep, but he embodies inauthenticity itself! If he awakens, he will drown the universe in inauthenticity, making everyone a slave to it!"

"S-seriously? How many crystals do we need to find?"

She put her finger to her lips.

"Hm… there are thousands of crystals… wait no there are millions… or maybe billions? Or trillions? Or maybe even hintrillion of them! But we need to find them quickly, because there are other people who are trying to get these wish crystals for themselves too!"

Did she just say hintrillion?…

"Um… do you have proof about the stuff you just said?"

"Yeah of course I do!" She brings out two magical-looking crystals out of hammerspace.

"Ok so the crystals are true… but what about stuff about The Spirit Of Gravity waking up?"

"Um… it was actually revealed to me in a dream, but it's actually true! You have to belive me!"

"A dream?! That's what you're basing this on?! Why the hell would I go search for trillions of crystals over something you saw in a dream?! You're the goddess of spoons, so it's not like you have some kind of precognition!"

"It's not trillions, it's hintrillions! And it's not like we have to collect every singe one. Theres a specific amount we have to gather for the wish, so don't worry!"

"How much then?"

"I don't know…"

"Just get out… I thought my life would actually have some value since I met a goddess, but you're just some useless goddess of spoons who's mentally ill"

Elara shouted at me offended. "WHAT!? I'm not useless! Just because I'm not like the other goddess doesn't mean I'm any less valuable than them… AND I'M DEFINITELY NOT MENTALLY ILL!!!"

She seems to be on the verge of tears… I kinda feel bad… but seriously… should I really trust this goddess based off of something she saw in a dream? If fate exists, then maybe I can have some worth… and she's actually cute like the characters in anime, so even if she is stupid, so I don't mind being her friend…

[BUT IF YOU BECOME HER FRIEND, YOU WILL CAUSE HER PAIN…. THEN YOU'LL BE IN PAIN AS WELL!]

A shock ran through my body as a voice in my head spoke… have I forgotten why I became isolated in the first place? If I connect with others again, then something bad is inevitable to happen at some point in time… they'll be in pain due to me, or I'll be in pain due to them, then my heart will sink deeper… As long as I don't associate with others, I won't risk any pain.

"Actually… I don't care about this kind of heroic fantasy stuff, so you can leave…"

"What?! But you're the chosen one! You can't just give up your role in the first chapter!"

"Maybe the author will get lazy and stop writing after this chapter… who cares about my so called role as the chosen one. Only people who aren't disappointments can acquire good roles. That's how society works. Nobody will value a hero who is a loser. If I was perfect, then they'll love me, but I'm a complete loser, and society only cares about your essence and not your true existence or identity. If they profile you as a loser, then they won't care about you deep down and won't try to understand your true feelings. They'll look at your cover and judge you from that and nothing else. So why should I save a meaningless reality like that?"

Elara has a sad look on a face now…

"But… but… you aren't a loser! If what you said was true, then I would have left you! I wouldn't be calling you the chosen one and I wouldn't need your help! There are so many other people on earth, yet I decided to choose you! Sure, view can yourself as a loser, and society can too! But you can go beyond those views. What society defines you by isn't an absolute fact! They're subjective words! Words that hold no absolute meaning in the face of beauty! You're a valueable person Kazuki! You hold infinite potential, and you can only show that potential with your own will. So don't misuse words and view those misused words as facts. Instead, slay those subjective words. Slay the freedom-denying ideals that society holds and make your own meaning! Only the individual can choose their path. Even your self hate stems from your own will… so you have the will… the power to change that self hate into self love! No external factors control you. You control yourself! And currently, you're personally deciding to limit your freedom. Only let yourself define you Kazuki!

I processed her words… I understand her words… she's right that everything society dictates is subjective… if I think about it… the accepted truths are only truths because they're accepted by the majority… so maybe I don't need to follow the majority… maybe I can follow myself… she followed herself afterall… choosing to pick a imperfect person like me, instead of a perfect human… usually in stories, the savior of the world is a perfect hero that everyone loves, but she decided to choose a imperfect loser that nobody loves… because she doesn't let the majority limit her choices…

"Ok… maybe… no… I'll definitely help you find those crystals, then I'll save the world! I'll show the world that the hero doesn't have to be cool or perfect! The hero can be flawed! I'm the imperfect hero, Kazuki!"

"My soul is determined with willpower. I will show that the values that society hold aren't objective or absolute. I won't misuse language to state subjective opinions like they're objective truths like society does. I will personally show them that they're wrong. Because what can't be said as a logical fact can only be shown as a value. Things like "Imperfect people are bad" aren't logical statements. They're not facts that can be objectively proven. It's simply an opinion that is being mistaken as a fact. So I will show them my value! Not with factual words, but with visual manifestation! People don't have to be perfect to be valued. Losers can be valued too… and losers can make their own values!"

Elara smiled at me. "Hehe, I knew you were the correct choice Kazuki!"

[BUT IS IT REALLY THAT EASY TO GROW AND PROVE THEM WRONG?]
