Honest Woodcutter and the Fairy

Chp1

The Honest Woodcutter and the Fairy

English Version:

Once upon a time, there lived a very poor woodcutter in a village. He was extremely honest and hard-working. One day, while cutting wood beside a deep river, his iron axe slipped from his hand and fell into the water. The river was very deep, and the woodcutter did not know how to swim. He sat on the bank and started crying, as he had no money to buy a new axe.

Suddenly, a beautiful fairy emerged from the water. She asked him the reason for his sadness. The woodcutter told her everything. The fairy felt pity for him and dived into the water. She came up with a golden axe and asked, "Is this your axe?" The woodcutter replied, "No, it is not mine."

The fairy dived again and brought a silver

axe. The woodcutter again said, "No, it is not mine." Finally, the fairy brought his iron axe. The woodcutter became very happy and said, "Yes! This is my axe."

The fairy was highly impressed by his honesty and gave him all three axes—golden, silver, and iron—as a reward. The woodcutter went home happily, and his life changed forever

Moral: Honesty is the best policy.
