Chapter 1 - Immortal

If you could live forever would you? I wouldn't want to live forever, but a very long time? Sign me up! Which is disappointing considering I'm an old man with two generations stemming from my balls... Is it normal for old people to want to live longer? I've never understood what's normal for old people even when I'm eighty.

The old fucks morning sunbathing is interrupted by a notification on his neuralink. His Neuralink is synced with all of the appliances and process in his family compound including the doorbell. He pressed the unlock button letting the person in and moments later a young man arrives with a briefcase.

"Didn't your parents teach you to not harass senior citizens in their death beds?" He asked.

"Oh... No my father was always too busy with his work and my mom became bitter because of it..."

"I know, I was joking... Also I'm not on my deathbed... I'm just wrinkly, would you like some lemonade." He asked before he took a sip of lemonade.

"Oh if it's not a problem... We're done." The young man said.

"Hah, I haven't heard those words since I was a boy." He cackled.

"No i-"

"Yes I know what you mean, the nanites." He said as he looked down at the briefcase.

"Yes we managed to finish it last night, I wanted to personally deliver it to you last night but... My wife made me rest."

"Honestly... I'm surprised, I never saw you as intelligent. I thought you were a nepo baby and would never succeed where your father failed, but you've exceeded my expectations for even your father."

"Thank you Gideon."

"Don't thank me, I don't say these things willy nilly. However if you do want something you can think me for I'll say something neither of your parents were mature enough to say, I'm proud of you." He said causing a great awkward silence that was only cut short by his granddaughter delivering lemonade to the young man.

"Thank you" the young man said before turning back to gideon.

"So... These nanites, explain them a bit to me."

"Well as you know they're very small, they can grab things, tear apart things, build things, move about whether through liquid or air, burrow through physical matter, etc. their main function is to sustain the body and even reverse aging initially but full body reconstruction requires time and a reconstruction pod. They also passively clear out toxins, repair damage, and deliver oxygen. They're made to be highly adaptive and self repairing even self replacing in the case of one being completely destroyed, they can do anything you can reasonably think of."

"So like a utility fog?" Gideon asked.

"Yes, however in the future they will be regulated and we've preinstalled some regulations we already know the U.N is gonna ask us to implement."

"Ah okay so when can I use it?"

"As soon asy men can install the reconstruction pod."

"Then have my permission."

"Thank you"

After finishing their lemonade Gideon moved to explain the situation to his family which due to him starting with "I have to go to sleep for a while" scared his grandchildren into thinking he was about to die. While he did that the young man and his men moved to install the pod which looked like a more detailed and reasonable version of the healing pod from dragon ball. The thought of being in a pod like Goku scratched an itch of sorts in Gideons brain, must be the autism. After a while of explaining to his grandchildren he isn't dying he entered the pod room to begin the process.

"So how do we start?"

"We start by injecting you with the nanites." The young man said preparing the needle.

As the young man prepared to inject him with the nanites he was stopped.

"Oh I forgot I got a rolling vein on that arm, do it on the other."

The young man moved to the other arm before gently injecting the nanites.

"Congratulations, you are officially the first person bonded to a nanite swarm... Er well you will be as soon as the nanites make their way to your brain and the mother bot burrows into it."

"Wow, kinda shocking that I lived long enough to see this day."

"Well you're about to live a LOT longer." He said as he prepared the pod.

"Okay so basically I just stand in the pod and it does the magic?"

"Well it's not magic, the bots will break down your body and rebuild it younger and then sustain it all while using the surrounding fluid like a mother's womb."

"Oh alright how long will I be in?"

"Like four months."

"Honestly, impressive considering building just a baby takes nine."

"That's what I said, alright now strip."

He strips down and then steps inside the pod which closes and begins filling with a slimey fluid. The fluid builds until it's up to his throat which is when he realizes he doesn't know what to do next.

"Wait do I hold my breath or-" He is cut off as he literally passes out on the spot.

"That's how."

The following months is dead silence in the pod but if he was conscious he would experience a light bubbling sensation as the nanites destroy and rebuild, destroy and rebuild. While he is under the family compound is maintained by the family but his room is maintained by his granddaughter. Every day she enters, dusts, sweeps, mops, checks his vitals, and then leaves, thrice a day.

One day while she is cleaning his room she hears something like bubbling and sure enough when she turns around bubbles are escaping his mouth inside the pod as the fluid begins to drain. She begins to panic wondering if she hit a power cord with her broom and soon all the fluid drains from the pod and the door hisses open. She watched as a young man with dirty blonde hair and baby blue eyes covered in slime residue steps out.
