Chapter 16 - Vajra Mantle - A reinforced reality

An overwhelming flood of information crashed into me.

My mind didn't even try to process it.

It couldn't.

So instead—

I felt it.

The world.

Not as sight. Not as sound.

But as presence.

Everything carried something—its own signature, its own energy. It didn't feel like I was sensing the world.

It felt like I had exposed myself to it.

And in response—

The world pressed back.

Against my atma.

Everything that existed announced itself to me.

Not loudly.

Not forcefully.

Just… undeniably.

A sphere of awareness spread outward from me, fading with distance. Within it, nothing could hide.

The rock beneath my feet felt ancient. Stable. Unmoving.

The trees were different—alive, shifting, layered with subtle patterns that constantly changed.

The air flowed softly, brushing past everything, never still.

It was too much.

Too detailed.

Too many layers overlapping at once.

I wasn't seeing the world.

I was experiencing it—at a speed my eyes could never hope to match.

There was no need for a mental map.

No need to think.

I simply knew.

The information never even reached my conscious mind—it was processed directly by my atma.

Nothing could conceal itself from me.

Not anymore.

It was… powerful.

Useful.

A terrifying addition to my senses.

But—

Not what I needed right now.

Because no matter how clearly I perceived them—

They would still tear through me like I was nothing.

What I needed…

Was protection.

Armor.

I glanced down briefly at my torn black t-shirt.

"…Yeah. Not happening."

The thought barely registered before I acted.

The creatures were already closing in.

Too close.

I pulled my atma back.

All of it that I had released—I forced it inward, condensing it around my body instead of letting it dissipate.

Then I did something more.

I pushed it out again.

And pulled it back.

Over and over—

But this time, I didn't let it re-enter my body.

I held it there.

Around me.

Compressed.

Layered.

The air thickened.

It grew dense—charged.

A faint hum filled the space around me, like tension stretched to its absolute limit.

Reality itself felt unstable.

As if everything around me could shatter at any moment.

But at the same time—

It felt reinforced.

Hardened.

A barrier formed.

Invisible.

But undeniable.

To reach my physical body now—

They would have to pass through it.

Through pure, condensed atma.

And their favorite fuel…

Was asura energy.

"…Let's see how you handle that."

There was no time to test it properly.

They were already here.

The first of them emerged from the treeline.

Fast.

Then more.

And more.

They poured in from every direction my awareness touched.

Endless.

Swarms of the bipedal beasts I had faced before, their twisted forms rushing forward without hesitation.

Behind them—

Something larger.

A massive, spider-like creature, its presence heavy, its energy rivaling that of the fox demon I had fought earlier.

And then—

A serpent.

Its body stretched beyond my perception, coiling through the terrain, its full length impossible to grasp.

And

Things I couldn't even define.

Shapes that didn't belong to anything I understood.

Twisted masses of asura energy given form—unstable, shifting, wrong.

An army.

No—

A swarm.

And every single one of them…

Was coming for me.
