Chapter 8: The Soul-Link Protocol and the Neon Requiem

The sirens faded into a rhythmic pulsing in Eve's ears, but it wasn't the sound of the city. It was the sound of the System.

[Ding! Warning! Warning!]

[Status: Soul-Link Activated (95% Sync).]

[Effect: Life Force Sharing Initiated. Alexander Seo's pain is now your pain. His survival is your only mission.]

Eve looked down at her hands. They were glowing with a faint, crystalline blue light. Beside her, Alexander lay in the wreckage of his study, his breath shallow, his sapphire eyes clouded with a haze of agony. The bullet wound in his side was no longer just his burden; Eve felt a sharp, searing heat in her own ribs, a phantom reflection of his injury.

"Don't... look at me like that," Alexander wheezed, his hand reaching out to grip her wrist. Even in his weakened state, his touch sent a jolt of electricity through the Soul-Link. "I told you... I'm a monster. Monsters don't die... from a few pieces of lead."

"Shut up, Alexander," Eve snapped, her voice breaking. She tore a strip of silk from her dress, pressing it hard against his wound. [Ding! Energy Transfer: -10 Days of Life to stabilize Source.]

She didn't hesitate. "System, transfer it. All of it if you have to."

The blue glow intensified, flowing from Eve's palms into Alexander's body. Slowly, the grey tint left his face, and his breathing steadied. He watched her, a mixture of disbelief and a raw, terrifying tenderness in his gaze. He had spent his life buying people, but he had never had someone give their very life force for him freely.

The Fortress of Silence

Three days later, the Vixaria Estate had been transformed into a high-tech medical bunker. Alexander was recovering, but the world outside was in chaos. Marcus and the Shadow Syndicate had officially declared war on Seo Industries, freezing Alexander's offshore accounts and branding him a criminal based on the very 'Judas Code' he had been protecting.

Eve stood in the center of the command room, her black suit now accompanied by a holographic interface that only she could see.

[New Quest: The Counter-Strike.]

[Objective: Hack into the Syndicate's main server at the 'Neon Tower' and clear Alexander's name.]

[Reward: +100 Days / Permanent Access to Alexander's 'Memory Core'.]

"You're not going alone," Alexander's voice came from the doorway. He was leaning against the frame, a black silk shirt half-buttoned, bandages visible beneath. He looked paler, but his presence was more lethal than ever.

"You can barely walk, Alexander," Eve said, not turning around.

He moved behind her, his chest brushing her back. He reached around, his hands covering hers on the holographic keys. The Soul-Link hummed, a warm, addictive vibration. "We are one now, Eve. Remember? Your eyes are my eyes. Your hands are my hands. If you go into that tower, I go with you—in your head, and in your heart."

He leaned down, his lips grazing the sensitive skin of her neck. "I've spent eighty million dollars to keep you near me. Do you think I'll let a bunch of vultures take you away now?"

The Neon Tower: A Leap of Faith

The mission was a descent into madness. The Neon Tower was a skyscraper made of glass and greed, guarded by the Syndicate's most brutal mercenaries. Eve moved through the shadows, her 'Stealth' ability making her a ghost in the machine.

"Right. Three guards. Low-frequency lasers," Alexander's voice echoed in her mind through the link. He was back at the estate, patched into her visual feed.

Eve moved with a grace she didn't know she possessed. She was no longer just the daughter of a ruined man; she was a weapon of vengeance. She reached the server room, but as she began the upload, the room turned blood-red.

[ALERT: TRAP DETECTED!]

[Status: System Breach. Marcus is counter-hacking your soul.]

Eve screamed as a digital shockwave tore through her mind. On the other end of the link, miles away, Alexander fell to his knees, coughing up blood. The Syndicate wasn't just trying to stop the hack; they were trying to kill them both through the connection.

"Eve... listen to me," Alexander's voice was strained, dying. "The code... the password isn't a number. It's a name."

"What name?" Eve gasped, her vision blurring.

"The name of the girl... my father told me to protect... before the Syndicate killed him too," Alexander whispered. "It was always you, Eve. Since we were children. The debt... it was the only way I could find you."

Eve's heart stopped. Everything—the crash, the debt, the system—it wasn't a game of cruelty. It was a long, desperate rescue mission.

"The password," she sobbed, her fingers trembling over the keys. "LUNA."

[Ding! ACCESS GRANTED.]

[System Evolution: 100% Sync achieved.]

[Ability Unlocked: 'The Empress's Wrath'.]

The Requiem of Fire

The tower began to shake. Eve didn't just clear Alexander's name; she wiped the Syndicate's entire digital existence. As she stepped out onto the rooftop, a helicopter hovered above. Marcus was inside, his face pale with terror.

"You... you're supposed to be dead!" Marcus screamed.

Eve looked up, her eyes glowing with a blinding white light. She raised her hand, and the system channeled the collective power of her and Alexander's bond. A surge of electromagnetic energy shot from her fingertips, short-circuiting the helicopter's engines.

As the helicopter spiraled into the sea, Eve felt a pair of arms wrap around her from behind. It wasn't a physical touch—it was Alexander, projecting his presence through the link.

"It's over, Eve," he whispered in her soul. "The debt is paid."

"No," Eve replied, leaning back into the invisible warmth of his embrace. "The debt is just beginning. Because now... you belong to me as much as I belong to you."

The system chimed one last time, a gentle, golden sound.
