Ray's body went rigid. His right hand was already half-curled into a fist, ready to crack Kevin in the face the second the guy tried anything. But Kevin just casually held out a cigarette and said, "Smoke first. Talk slow."
Ray stayed quiet for a beat. He'd quit years ago 'cause money was tight as hell. But tonight the vibe was straight-up weird, and for some reason he just took the cigarette without saying shit. Kevin flicked his lighter, Ray took a drag. The bitter taste hit his throat hard. Been a long fucking time since he felt that.
They stood against the side of the building, the busted yellow light stretching their shadows long across the wall. Kevin's face was already pissed, eyebrows pulled tight.
"Julia's saying you forced her to suck your dick," Kevin said flat, but his tone made it obvious he didn't believe it for a second.
Ray almost choked on the smoke.
