Ray shoved his phone in his pocket after the call cut out. The night street felt longer than usual. Streetlights flickered slow. Wind carried dust and the smell of cold asphalt. His backpack dug into his shoulder. Notifications in his pocket kept buzzing nonstop, like some bug stuck to his skin that wouldn't let go.
Milady wouldn't shut up.
"Still thinking about that 'I love you'?" Her voice was slick, clinging to his spine. "So sweet. Last night you had her moaning till her voice cracked. Now you're the one acting all shy. Cute."
Ray didn't answer. His feet just followed the pin stuck in his head. The farther he got from the crowds, the quieter it got. Most of the shop-houses around here already had their lights dead. Front windows boarded up, paint peeling off the walls, store signs just leftover nail holes.
