"Why?" Lucas asked instantly, the playful warmth in his dark eyes evaporating, replaced in a split second by something sharp, cold, and entirely unreadable.
Nina swung her legs over the side of the tall mattress, her bare feet meeting the plush rug as she ran a frantic hand through her messy hair. Her mind was already racing ahead to the dozen things waiting for her outside this bedroom, this house, this strange new life she hadn't quite agreed to. "I have a life outside of this, Lucas. I need to go."
Lucas wasn't happy to hear that… not in the slightest. The muscle along his jaw twitched once, hard, but he was a master of control; he didn't let a single drop of his frustration show in his voice.
