Elena stood in the living room when Daniel entered the house with the woman.
They stopped when they saw her.
For a few seconds, no one spoke.
Then Daniel said coldly,
"You're still awake?"
Elena looked at the woman beside him.
The woman smiled slightly, confident and calm.
She was beautiful.
Very beautiful.
"I was waiting for you," Elena said quietly.
Daniel took off his coat.
"This is Sophia," he said. "She will stay here for some time."
Elena felt her heart drop.
"Stay… here?" she repeated.
Sophia stepped forward and smiled politely.
"Hello, Elena. I heard a lot about you."
Elena forced a small smile.
"I didn't hear anything about you."
Daniel frowned.
"Sophia just came back from abroad. She will work with our company."
Elena looked at him.
"And she has to live in our house?"
Daniel's voice became colder.
"This house belongs to my family."
Those words hurt.
Elena looked at Sophia again.
Sophia looked back at her with a small smile…
But her eyes were full of victory.
At that moment, Elena understood everything.
Sophia walked closer to Daniel and held his arm naturally, like she always did that.
"Daniel, I'm tired," Sophia said softly.
"Can you show me my room?"
Daniel nodded.
"I'll take you upstairs."
He walked past Elena without even looking at her.
As they went upstairs together, Elena heard Sophia whisper:
"Your wife looks very weak."
Daniel answered coldly:
"She won't stay for long."
Elena felt like the ground disappeared under her feet.
She stood alone in the living room, not moving.
She was the wife.
But another woman was walking upstairs with her husband.
Tears filled her eyes.
She finally understood her position in this house.
She was not the wife.
