From the rooftops, inside nearby vehicles, and behind the tinted windows of the headquarters, Phantom operatives tracked every movement. Security personnel stood at their posts, outwardly calm but clearly alert to the unexpected visitors.
The lieutenant lowered his voice.
"Should we call ahead?"
Bernard shook his head.
"No. Xander already knows I'm here."
Without another word, he started toward the entrance.
"Come," he said. "Let's not keep him waiting."
The automatic doors slid open as the two men entered the lobby.
Almost instantly, several members of Phantom's security team shifted into position, subtly surrounding Bernard and his companion without alarming the employees passing through the lobby.
Then Hunter stepped forward and offered a polite nod.
"This way, sir."
Bernard smiled faintly and followed without hesitation.
