Chapter 9 - Acquiring the Body's Memories

On the second day of Jeremy's transmigration, right after his family went to work, he shooed his loyal butler away, who felt reluctant to stay away from him.

He was planning to hole himself up inside his bedroom until he felt confident enough to enter the academy.

"Jude, unless I call you or answer your call, don't come inside my room."

Jeremy said as he stood in the doorway of his room to block his butler from entering.

Jude felt reluctant to not stay beside his young master's side, but remembering his young master's tendency of sometimes hiding away from people for a few days or more, Jude later nodded in understanding.

"Alright, Young Master. But if you ever need something, please call me anytime."

Along with his words, he offered a respectful bow.

Jeremy nodded his head with a smile before shutting the door decisively, making sure to lock it so that no one dares to disturb him.

Click.

Jude who was still outside the bedroom heard the sound of the door locking from the inside and felt complicated.

For some reason, he felt wronged that his young master locked the door right in front of him.

Inside the room, Jeremy looked at the books sitting on the bookshelf.

The collection of books varied from history, economics, etiquettes, strategy, and so on.

But Jeremy only selected books that he felt like he truly needed right now… books about magic.

He carefully placed the seven books he picked from the bookshelves onto his table and opened one of them to start reading.

Just as he was about to read the first sentence, he heard a beautiful female voice calling his name.

"Jeremy."

Jeremy turned around to where the sound came from but found no one there, rather, what he saw was the white book handed to him by the church.

It was floating on the air while glowing a radiant color of golden white as it gradually moved towards Jeremy.

"Goddess?"

Jeremy called out as he caught the flying book into his hands.

The moment the book landed in Jeremy's hands, it opened its pages on its own and emitted a blinding holy light that made Jeremy close his eyes.

After a few seconds, Jeremy opened his eyes and saw that he was no longer inside his room, instead, he was brought to a familiar but also unfamiliar place.

It feels like the Goddess's domain, but it looks different from the Goddess domain.

Just like Goddess Aurora's domain, this place also is a vast greenland that can make anyone feel at peace and safe.

"Goddess?"

Jeremy called out.

But unlike before, there was no sign of Goddess or any person right now aside from himself.

As he looked around, he saw beautiful bubbles floating up in the air with no signs of bursting any moment.

Jeremy stared at the bubble nearest to him and found himself being enchanted.

These bubbles are not ordinary.

Inside each of them, there are moving images of real people making Jeremy feel like he was watching a movie.

But what captivated him more was because of the identity of the people inside the bubbles.

"Is this me?"

Jeremy wondered after seeing a face that looked exactly like him.

He saw the person with a similar face to himself smiling happily while being hugged by his father, Duke Julian Valen de Thorne.

Jeremy is an intelligent person, so he immediately realized something.

The person in the bubbles that resembles him so much is none other than Jeremiah de Thorne.

Jeremy subconsciously reached out his hand to touch the bubble showing Jeremiah and the duke hugging each other, but the moment his fingers made contact with it, it popped.

After the first bubble popped, like a domino effect, the remaining countless bubbles bursted one by one despite no one touching them, until not a single bubble remained.

Once all of the bubbles exploded, a small light that looked like a water drop emerged from each of the bursted bubbles and directly flew towards Jeremy like fireflies.

Jeremy was stunned when all of those small drops of lights continuously pierced through his forehead.

Contrary to his expectation of feeling pain or any discomfort once hit by the tiny lights, what he felt was like a drop of water gently touching his forehead before seeping through inside his skin without him feeling anything.

As the droplets-like lights continue to seep inside his forehead, Jeremy realized that he started to gradually remember things he didn't do before.

He remembers himself playing with the crown prince as a child then later on starting to distance himself from the crown prince.

'Oh! So that's what happened~'

He remembers himself making others gasping for breath trying to find him when he first learned the magic of making himself invisible.

'Ohhh, magic~'

He remembers going out of the duchy to his secret hideout to research about mana, magic spells, and magic circles.

'Woww, a hideout and more magic~'

He remembers himself growing up as a noble's son learning etiquette and being pampered by his family throughout his life.

'Hmm… We're such a loving and good-looking family~'

Jeremy gradually gained all of Jeremiah de Thorne's memories as if it was his own.

His memories from Earth managed to easily join together with the memories he just acquired right now, making him feel like he and Jeremiah de Thorne were not a separate entity.

Instead, he felt like he was both Jeremy Park and Jeremiah de Thorne, just from different dimensions.

Once Jeremy finished gaining and reliving the memories, he was transported to a familiar place.

A greenland with a comfortable amount of sunshine lighting up the place.

The breeze blew refreshingly towards the living things in the area, and a beautiful sound of flowing water could be heard.

After enjoying the beauty of the scenery, Jeremy turned around and saw Goddess Aurora sitting before a round table filled with refreshments.

"Hello, my beloved saint. Please take a seat and make yourself comfortable."

Goddess Aurora spoke, her voice so beautiful like a lullaby.

Seeing the sweet pastries displayed on the table, Jeremy sat across the goddess, eyeing the food.

Once seated, Aurora offered him the refreshments on the table, and Jeremy didn't hesitate to nimbly grab a mango pie and eat it.

'How delicious~'

While he was savoring the overflowing sweetness inside his mouth, he heard the woman across from him speak.

"I saw you planning to study magic from the basics earlier, so instead of tiring yourself out, I figured out it's easier for you if you have the memories of your body."

Goddess Aurora looked gently toward him, eyes full of deep fondness.

Listening to her, Jeremy understood that she was the reason for what happened earlier.

"Thank you, Goddess. Having these memories would be a great help to me in the future."

Jeremy sincerely thanked the woman.

Although Jeremy couldn't understand why a deity was wasting her time on helping a mere human like him, he didn't doubt her kindness.

Jeremy read a lot of novels before and believed that not all deities are kind to human beings.

Some of them even looked down on humans.

But looking at the goddess in front of him…

'Maybe she was just this kind of a goddess.'

A kind deity… a goddess that is fond of humans.

However, Jeremy knew that all things have their own price.

Helping him obtain the memories, the goddess must have paid a price for it.

The woman looked at Jeremy with a soft smile, but Jeremy could still perceive a trace of exhaustion on her face as if she lacked some energy.

But Jeremy was unsure, so he just asked instead.

"Goddess, may I know what price you pay for helping me?"

Goddess Aurora paused for a while, seemingly surprised by his question, then she chuckled softly.

"Aiya! Among the humans that I've helped before, you're the first one to ask me this question."

The Goddess said before she reached her hand to wipe the crumbs of food beside Jeremy's mouth.

Then she continued talking.

"Will you hate me if I won't answer your question?"

Seeing the complex emotion on the woman's face, Jeremy shook his head as he replied.

"No, Goddess. It's fine if you don't answer, but I hope that you didn't sacrifice too much for me, after all, I don't know how to repay a kindness from a deity."

Hearing his statement, the said deity who offered him kindness, showed an assuring smile.

"Don't worry, I didn't pay that much for helping you. And if you want to repay me, how about you live a happy and long life for me? You know, all of my previous saints died early in their lives."

The last sentence was spoken by the goddess in almost a whisper, her voice carrying a hint of sorrow.

Seeing her looking pained, Jeremy suppressed himself from asking how her previous saints died.

He heard the deity speak again.

"Jeremy, promise me that you will live a long life."

Jeremy looked at the solemn expression of the woman and slowly nodded his head.

"Goddess, I will live a happy and long life as your saint."

After that, the goddess continued talking to him about different topics.

Once she felt satisfied conversing with him for who knows how long, she sent him back to his bedroom in the ducal estate.

Jeremy looked at the table filled with magic-related books and sighed in relief as he took them back to the bookshelves.

'Thank you, Goddess.'

Goddess Aurora really did help him in his preparation to enter the academy.

The memories made him completely familiar with everything in this world right now.

The only thing he needs to do is practice moderately until the day he enters the Imperial Academy.

. . .

Back to Goddess Aurora's domain, when Jeremy was finally sent back, a woman wearing a long golden flowing dress appeared behind the goddess.

The woman bowed her head as she respectfully spoke.

"Master, why did you lie to that human?"

Hearing the question of her subordinate, Goddess Aurora remembered the one lie she uttered in front of Jeremy.

"Don't worry, I didn't pay that much for helping you."

The goddess smiled softly as she turned around and patted her subordinate's shoulder.

"If I didn't lie to him back then, that child would never accept my help anymore."

The goddess said this with a tone full of certainty.
