The executive floor of Reyes Global had never felt so hollow.
I stood in the doorway of Adrian's office, watching him move through the space like a ghost. He wasn't rushing. He wasn't throwing things into boxes with the kind of furious energy I had expected. He was methodical. Quiet. Pulling books from shelves, stacking them in neat piles. Sliding framed photos into a leather satchel. Folding his hands and pressing them against the surface of his desk, like he was saying goodbye to the wood itself.
Security had given us until 6:00 PM to vacate.
It was 5:47.
"You don't have to stay," he said without looking up. His voice was calm. Too calm. The kind of calm that meant he was screaming on the inside.
"I know."
"I mean it, Alex. You should go home. Get some rest. This isn't—"
"I'm not leaving you here alone."
