Chapter 18 - Crossing Boundaries

The evening had a strange, electric stillness.

I was in the living room, curled up on the couch, pretending to scroll through my phone, though my mind was far away.

Ethan appeared silently behind me, leaning on the armrest.

"Bored?" he asked softly.

I looked up, heart skipping. "A little."

He smiled, eyes glinting with mischief. "I think I can fix that."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh? How?"

He leaned closer, brushing my hair from my face, his hand lingering against my cheek.

"By making sure you don't get bored at all," he murmured, his voice low and teasing.

My chest tightened. "Ethan…" I whispered, trying to hide my reaction.

"Relax," he said softly. "I won't do anything… unless you want me to."

I swallowed hard, heat rising to my cheeks.

Before I could answer, he leaned even closer, until his lips brushed my ear.

"You know I've been thinking about this all day," he whispered, his breath warm against my skin.

I shivered. "Thinking about what?"

Him smirking, brushing his lips along my jaw. "About us. About being… close. About stealing moments like this."

I bit my lip, heart racing uncontrollably.

"Ethan!" I gasped, turning slightly to face him.

He smiled softly, eyes dark and intense. "You love it."

"I—" I stammered, my thoughts spinning.

He pressed his lips to mine briefly, teasing, soft, but full of intent.

I could feel his hand lightly resting on my waist, holding me close, but not too close—just enough to make me melt.

"You're impossible," I whispered, heart hammering.

"Only for you," he murmured, brushing his thumb across my lips.

We stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, letting the warmth and intimacy grow between us.

Then, footsteps echoed in the hallway.

"Maya!" I whispered, jumping slightly.

She appeared in the doorway, arms crossed, her expression a mix of exasperation and amusement.

"You two are ridiculous," she muttered, though I caught the hint of a smile.

Ethan stepped back, but his hand lingered near mine. "We're just… being honest," he said smoothly.

Maya shook her head. "Honest? You two look like you're plotting world domination."

I laughed softly. "We're just… enjoying each other."

"Yeah, sure," she muttered, though she didn't look angry—just cautious.

After Maya left the room, Ethan pulled me close again, resting his forehead against mine.

"You know," he whispered, "I can't get enough of you."

"Neither can I," I admitted softly, feeling the warmth of his chest against mine.

He smiled, brushing a hand along my arm. "We'll have to steal more moments like this," he murmured.

I laughed softly, leaning into him. "You're impossible."

"Crazy about you," he corrected, and I felt my heart leap.

We stayed on the couch for a long while, wrapped up in each other, letting the world fade away.

And in that moment, I realized something terrifying—and thrilling

I didn't just like him anymore.

I didn't just want him.

I was falling… completely, hopelessly, utterly in love.
