Chapter 3

A Ridiculous Blessing

The entire ceremony hall felt as if it was holding its breath.

The magical circle beneath my feet glowed brighter and brighter, sending warm ribbons of light swirling around my body like playful fireflies dancing through the summer night. The tall marble pillars surrounding the hall shimmered softly with golden sparkles, reflecting the radiance of the blessing circle. Above us, the massive ceiling painted with flying dragons and distant starry skies seemed almost alive, as if the ancient beasts might soar out of the murals at any moment.

Floating lanterns drifted lazily overhead like glowing jellyfish in the sky, casting a cozy, dreamy glow over everything. The air smelled sweet and warm, like fresh honey mixed with blooming night flowers and a faint hint of sparkling magic that tingled gently in the lungs with every breath.

All the nobles dressed in their elaborate robes leaned forward in their seats, eyes wide with anticipation. Their colorful garments—deep royal blues, emerald greens, rich crimson reds, and shimmering silver threads—made the hall look like a living painting of noble pride. Even their jeweled rings and necklaces sparkled eagerly under the dancing light.

Even my siblings were watching closely with excited expressions.

Leon sat tall and proud, his polished sword resting against his chair. Adrian still had a tiny spark of magic flickering between his fingers from his own blessing earlier, like a curious blue butterfly. Elena leaned forward slightly, her bright eyes shining with curiosity and encouragement.

And Father stood near the altar with his arms folded.

His expression was calm, but I could see the focus in his eyes.

It was the expression of a man ready to be proud of his son no matter what blessing appeared.

My heart was thumping so loudly in my chest that I could almost hear it over the gentle music drifting from the hidden flutes somewhere in the hall.

Then the priest, dressed in long flowing white robes embroidered with golden threads, raised his glowing staff high into the air.

The moment he did—

The light from the magic circle exploded upward like a fountain of stars.

A bright pillar of golden radiance shot toward the ceiling, scattering sparkling motes of light across the entire hall.

Everyone gasped at once.

Warm magical wind rushed outward like a gentle wave.

The priest closed his eyes for a moment, his expression becoming solemn as if he were listening carefully to whispers carried down from the heavens.

When he opened them again, his voice rang out loud and clear across the grand hall.

"Lucas Valerian has received the Divine Blessing…"

The entire hall froze.

Not a single whisper.

Not a single movement.

Even the floating lanterns seemed to pause in the air.

Everyone held their breath.

"…Livestream."

Silence.

A really long…

Really awkward silence.

For several heartbeats, nobody spoke.

It was so quiet that a feather falling onto the marble floor might have sounded like thunder.

Then the whispers began.

At first they were soft.

Then they spread across the hall like ripples across a lake.

"Livestream?"

"What kind of blessing is that?"

"I've never heard of such a thing."

Some nobles frowned in confusion.

Others scratched their chins thoughtfully, their jeweled rings flashing under the golden light.

Then an older nobleman sitting near the back of the hall let out a small chuckle.

It was like someone had opened a door.

More laughter followed.

First quiet.

Then louder.

"This must be some silly little blessing."

"What could anyone possibly do with something called 'livestream'?"

"Count Valerian's youngest son truly drew the shortest straw today."

"Perhaps the gods were feeling playful today."

My ears grew hot.

I could feel my cheeks warming too.

Even though I had already heard the strange voice inside my head earlier, standing there while an entire hall of nobles laughed still stung a little.

I tried to keep a small smile on my face.

Inside my mind, however, a single thought echoed.

Great. The handsome decoration of the family just received the world's most ridiculous blessing.

The priest himself looked somewhat confused.

He glanced down at his glowing staff as if hoping it would magically explain the blessing.

Clearly, even he had never heard of such a thing.

After a brief moment of hesitation, he simply nodded politely.

"The ceremony is complete. May the gods watch over young Master Lucas."

The glowing magic circle beneath my feet slowly dimmed.

The swirling lights faded away like sleepy butterflies drifting into the night.

I stepped down from the altar.

The cool marble floor beneath my shoes felt strangely comforting.

But the whispers and quiet laughter followed me like tiny shadows trailing behind.

Before those feelings could sink too deeply into my chest—

A warm hand rested gently on my shoulder.

Father.

Count Aldric Valerian looked down at me with those steady, reassuring eyes that always made the world feel a little less heavy.

His voice was deep and calm.

"Do not worry, Lucas."

"Not every blessing shines like fireworks at first."

"But remember this…"

"You are still my son."

"Your father, your brothers, and your sister will always stand beside you, no matter what path the gods have chosen."

My eldest brother Leon suddenly wrapped one of his massive arms around my shoulders, pulling me into a half hug.

"Yeah, little brother!" he laughed.

"Even if your talent is a bit… unusual, you'll be fine."

"Who knows? Maybe it will become the coolest blessing in the empire."

"We can laugh about it later over cake."

Adrian chuckled warmly.

"Maybe you can livestream our training sessions."

"I'll perform amazing spells, and you can show everyone how beautiful the garden looks while I sweat."

Elena reached forward and gently fixed a strand of my messy hair.

Her smile was soft and encouraging.

"Don't listen to the whispers, Lucas."

"Every blessing has a purpose."

"The gods never make mistakes."

"They simply enjoy surprising us."

Their words wrapped around me like a warm blanket on a cold winter night.

The laughter of the nobles faded into the distance.

For a moment the grand hall no longer felt huge and overwhelming.

It simply felt like home.

I nodded with a relaxed smile.

"Thanks everyone."

"I'll be okay. Promise."

But honestly?

My mind was barely listening anymore.

Because inside my head…

That mysterious voice was still speaking clearly.

Later that evening I sat quietly inside our family carriage as it rolled smoothly along the wide stone road leading back toward our mansion.

The carriage itself was beautiful.

Dark polished wood decorated with golden carvings of twisting vines and tiny stars.

The decorations glowed faintly in the evening light like enchanted art.

Outside the window, the sky stretched wide with breathtaking colors.

Warm oranges.

Deep purples.

Soft pink clouds drifting like painted brushstrokes.

Rolling green hills passed by slowly, dotted with glowing wildflowers that twinkled like little lanterns in the grass.

A gentle wind carried the scent of pine forests and distant magic.

My siblings chatted happily beside me.

Father read an important scroll illuminated by a floating lantern.

But my full attention remained focused inward.

"System… are you real?"

The answer came instantly.
