Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: The First Battle with Saber 3/5

"Impossible!" Before Jean could state her position, Rin was the first to reject Sakura's decision.

"Can't you be a little flexible, Elder Sister? If we team up, we might be able to get the Holy Grail."

"That's still impossible." To Rin, her sister currently didn't give her as much of a sense of security as Jean did.

Jean looked around and decided it was best to reach a conclusion first.

"First of all, Rin certainly won't give it to you. In my eyes, the Holy Grail isn't as valuable as she is. But, considering things from her perspective, she doesn't want to be your enemy under any circumstances."

"Jean..." Tohsaka Rin was slightly moved, but Jean ignored her and continued:

"Personally speaking, sisters competing for favor is a pleasant affair, but sisters killing each other or facing life-and-death partings is far too unpleasant. So, propose an acceptable condition now, otherwise I will personally ensure that you aren't killed by the other groups."

"Are you threatening me?!" Sakura was a bit annoyed, but she bit the bullet and offered a condition: "Then three times. I want the right to use command spells on Elder Sister three times."

"If it's too excessive, I reserve the right to refuse."

"Deal!"

"Hey!" Rin felt dissatisfied about being sold out, but the others had no time to pay attention to her.

Because, without anyone noticing, everyone in the cafe, including the waiters, had left.

Just then, a childish female voice rang out from the doorway: "Are you finished discussing yet? I've been waiting until I'm impatient."

Jean, who had noticed her long ago, answered with a smile: "Well, thanks for that, Illya-chan."

"I didn't expect you to know my name. But it seems the others aren't aware, so I'll introduce myself. I am Illyasviel von Einzbern, the master of the Einzbern Family."

While introducing herself, she performed a standard noble bow. As expected of a young lady with a 'von' in her name, her etiquette was truly proper. It was much more authentic than Rin, who just pretended to be elegant.

"So, what business does this master of the Einzbern Family have here?" Rin asked.

"A heavily injured Lancer and a weak Assassin teaming up is just too much of an eyesore. Naturally, I'm here to annihilate you all in one go."

Saber tried her best to stop Illya, but she said it anyway. With no other choice, Saber stepped forward, and Cú Chulainn also stood up. The two sides began to confront each other.

"Stop, stop, stop. You don't intend to fight right here, do you? Let's go find a place outside the city." Jean stopped them.

"Don't even think about running away, although it's impossible for you to get away anyway."

"To be honest, I'm quite envious of how confident you are," Jean mocked.

"You!" But Illya was held back by Saber.

Then, Jean carried Rin and sped off with the help of the wind, Sakura moved using her shadows, and Cú Chulainn followed behind, looking miserable. As for Illya and Saber, they had come by car—they were driving!

Although they were shocked, Jean and the others didn't have the nerve to hitch a ride.

Thus, the group was chased for over ten kilometers like ducks by the sports car, which was boosted by Saber's Riding skill, until they arrived at an open space at the foot of a mountain.

Saber spoke first: "As members of the Three Families, you understand the special nature of the Einzbern Family master, don't you?"

"Ah, it's fine. We won't attack your master," Rin replied.

"Thank you."

"Saber! No need to be a busybody. Even if those two team up, they are no match for me."

"Stop fooling around, Illya. The Holy Grail War is not a game. Although your magical energy is strong, the magical energy inside that purple-haired girl is not inferior to yours."

After Saber gave Illya some instructions on how to use the command spells, she settled her down near the edge of the woods.

Meanwhile, Jean was figuring out who should go into battle.

"Can't you all go together?" Rin asked, confused.

"Yeah, I'll go too! Let's teach that arrogant brat a lesson!" Sakura readily agreed.

Cú Chulainn looked at these two sisters who had absolutely no concept of martial honor and was just about to say something when he heard Jean say:

"Don't mess around. Fighting against a beautiful girl is a pleasure, okay? So I'll just go alone. Lancer, take advantage of the chaos to snatch her master over. Legal lolis are the best!"

"There's no hope. These girls have absolutely no respect for battle in their hearts."

The three of them looked at Cú Chulainn strangely.

"Respect? What is that? What's it good for?" — Rin

"My teacher never taught me such things!" — Sakura

"You're the only one being wishy-washy here. Have a little more masculinity, Lancer." — Jean

"Fine, fine, whatever you want." Cú Chulainn decisively surrendered with both hands raised.

Then, Jean walked up and faced Saber.

"I am Jean, class Assassin. Please take care of me, Saber-chan."

Watching Jean greet her so frivolously, Saber frowned, but still said solemnly: "Servant Saber. Sorry, I cannot reveal my true name."

"It's fine, it's fine. You're so cute, so I forgive you."

"Please show some respect. You are facing a knight!"

"Knights can be cute, too. And to me, 'cute' is one of the highest forms of praise."

This kind of pre-battle flirting made Saber very angry, so she burst with magical energy under her feet, brandished her invisible sword, and charged forward.

Jean stood motionless, as if she hadn't reacted.

Although Saber was puzzled, she didn't stop her attack. Just a moment before it was about to land, with a 'clang', the sword in her hand was precisely blocked by a white blade.

Simultaneously, due to her Instinct, she instantly retreated. Sure enough, she saw Jean take advantage of the opening created by blocking and pushing back, instantly lowering her body and dashing toward Saber's chest.

She aimed a slash right at the gap in the armor. Fortunately, Saber had retreated in advance and barely dodged the blow; only the fabric at that spot was sliced open, and a red line appeared simultaneously.

"Instinct, huh? This ability that feels like predicting the future is really cheap. I was just a hair's breadth away from rushing into your heart." Jean looked at Saber with a smile, not at all annoyed by the failed attack.

On the contrary, Saber looked grave as she re-evaluated Jean. Although the girl in white before her was spouting nonsense, her strength was definitely not to be underestimated. She was able to block her sword with one hand, and at the same time counterattack at a speed that would be impossible to react to without Instinct. Moreover, even though the opponent attacked the gaps in the armor where magical energy was still deployed, it had been sliced open as easily as paper.
