Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Christmas Eve - Part 2

Gotham City – The Batcave

Deep beneath Wayne Manor, the Batcave carried an unusual warmth.

Alfred Pennyworth stood near the edge of the central platform holding a silver tray in his hands that had aqtwo mugs of hot cocoa and a small plate of freshly baked biscuits.

His sharp eyes softened slightly as he watched the scene before him.

Bruce Wayne sat in one of the reinforced chairs, his posture unusually relaxed as he observed the monitor in front of him.

Ace, the large shepherd black dog, lay curled in his with his head resting comfortably on Bruce's thigh.

Bruce's hand moved in slow strokes behind the dog's ears and down his neck like a gentle rhythm that spoke volumes of their relationships.

Alfred had seen many versions of Master Bruce over the years.

The angry young man.

The driven vigilante.

The exhausted leader.

But moments like this where the weight of Gotham seemed to lift, if only slightly were rare and precious.

Ace let out a deep contented sigh and pressed closer. Bruce's fingers didn't stop once as he continued to observe the information plastered on the monitor.

"You've been through a lot... " he murmured in a voice low enough that only Ace could hear. "Yet you still trust me."

The rehabilitated dog lifted his head and licked Bruce's hand once, as if sensing the rare vulnerability in his owner who's fingers paused, then resumed their gentle rhythm.

Alfred approached quietly and set the tray down within easy reach. "I should hope the both you and the young master take this moment of peace seriously." he said with his signature dry fatherly fondness.

"Even the Dark Knight deserves one quiet Christmas ."

The Batman glanced up, a faint ghost of a smile touching his lips. "Alfred."

Dick Grayson grinned while leaning against a nearby console . "He's been like this for nearly an hour. Ace has him properly leached."

Alfred looked at Ace with quiet approval. "A fine companion he is . Far more sensible than either of you ever were at that age."

Bruce continued stroking the soft fur, the large dog leaning into the touch with complete trust.

In the soft glow of the small Christmas tree Dick had insisted on placing in the corner, the cave felt less like an observation room and more like a genuine home

Alfred stood back, watching with a mixture of pride and melancholy. He knew what tomorrow would bring. The calm that was always followed by a Storm is always noticed by wise people.

A night of peace in Gotham only meant the gates of hell are about to open soon...

But tonight… tonight was for this moment...

"Merry Christmas, Master Bruce"

Bruce met his eyes and smiled slightly as if it was an impossible task. "Merry Christmas , Alfred."

Ace's tail thumped once against the floor in agreement as he nudged deeper into Bruce.

Chicago Suburbs – Grayson Household

In a warmly lit living room, the Grayson family was enjoying a rare moment of normalcy.

Mark sat beside his father on the couch, a half-eaten plate of Debbie's famous Christmas cookies on the coffee table.

A classic holiday movie played softly on the TV while Nolan had one arm around Debbie, the other resting protectively on Mark's shoulder.

For once, there were no evil villains or mindless monsters the required the help of the great omniman and certainly no homework for the the boy still keeping his powers a secret.

Debbie leaned her head against Nolan's chest. "This feels nice" she said softly letting a long sigh. "Really nice."

Mark smiled, feeling the weight of his secret but choosing to simply be here. "Yeah… it is."

Nolan's grip tightened slightly on his son's shoulder in a rare display of gentle affection.

Queens, New York

The small Parker apartment smelled of warmth and tradition. Some may call this a paradise for the poor.

Aunt May had prepared a beautiful mouthwatering dinner. Peter sat at the table, laughing as Uncle Ben told his usual exaggerated stories while May kept refilling everyone's plates with love.

For a few precious hours, the world outside didn't exist. Just family, good food, and the comforting illusion of safety.

Jujutsu High – Tokyo

While much of the world tried to hold onto Christmas peace, the higher ranked sorcerers had gathered in a reinforced meeting room for strict strategic planning.

Yaga Masamichi sat at the head of the table with a grave expression that spoke volumes of the situation.

Utahime Iori stood near the window with her arms crossed while Mei Mei lounged elegantly, occasionally glancing at her phone

Gojo leaned against the wall with Yuta right besides him . The two were oblivious to the uncomfortable atmosphere or just didn't care .

How do you know, you may ask? Well it's a simple thing actually. Would they be playing Yu GI Oh if they were nervous.

"I banish my dark summoned skull and my light d.d warrior lady to summon my black luster so—"

Thud

Principal Gakuganji slammed his staff in the ground in frustration causing the two trouble makers to briefly look at him before completely ignoring him

" So ..." Yuta glanced at his hand and board quickly before recalling the game State " I activate my monster effect to banish your face down monster and attack with cyber dragon for game ."

"Na uh, I activate my trap card Compulsory Evacuation Device to return your cyber dragon to the hand."

.

.

.

"Why didn't you return black luster soldier before I used its effect?"

"Don't know, probably forgot to because of that annoying geezer "

A tick mark appeared on Gakuganji's forehead but he forcibly swallowed his anger. Even though the strong minded principle could contain his dissatisfaction someone much easily triggered by the white haired idiot could not.

"Ahhh gojo you idiot could you ever take anything seriously!?" Utahimi stood up from her chair and and threw an accusing finger at gojo.

"What's wrong with her sensei?why is she so worked up?." Yuta glanced at his teacher with all the fake innocence he could project

Catching the hint Saturo played along

" I don't know my dear student it's not like we did anything wrong"

"You smug bastard and his annoying successor I will kill both of you " Mei Mei stepped forward to hold down the raging bull before it went on the offensive

'Is this what the kids call ragebait nowadays... Such a terrifying technique.'

Yaga visibly sweated at how easy it is to make someone lose their cool

The following discussion was purely strategic and utterly boring if you asked gojo .

Despite the chaos, the actual discussion remained purely strategic. The meeting was basic but clear: Yuta and Gojo would handle Geto directly, while the other sorcerers dealt with the fallout.

Many factions had already been briefed by the higher-ups as a safety net.

"Rest while you can. Tomorrow… the real war begins."Yaga finally concluded the meeting.

Outside gentle snow continued to fall over Jujutsu High quiet, and beautifully deceptive.

Tomorrow, the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons would begin in earnest.
