Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 9

THE GILDED DEPARTURE

The day finally arrived, the transition from the quiet comfort of the estate to the high-octane energy of university life in a brand-new state.

The morning air was crisp as the black SUVs were loaded, marking the official end of their "Startup Summer."

"The Final Goodbye"

On the grand front steps of the estate, the atmosphere was a rare mix of professional pride and familial warmth.

Clara turned to Massimo's mother, the woman she had spent the last several weeks shadowing as a "Junior Director," and pulled her into a heartfelt hug.

"Thank you for everything," Clara whispered. "I've learned more from you about leadership than I ever could in a textbook."

Massimo's mother patted her back, a small, proud smile on her lips. She then gestured to several beautifully wrapped boxes held by the staff. "A parting gift for you and Kamsi," she said. "A collection of designer dresses and essentials to ensure you both command respect the moment you step onto that campus. Wear them well."

"Thanks mom" Clara greeted.

Massimo stepped forward next, hugging his mother before turning to his father. The older man placed a firm hand on Massimo's shoulder, his expression serious but encouraging.

"Listen to me, Massimo," his father said. "Influence is earned in the details, but power is kept through discipline. You are going there to be an Electrical Engineer, a field that requires absolute precision. Don't let the lights of the movie studio blind you to the foundation of your degree. Stay sharp."

With those final words of advice, he handed Massimo a minimalist, silver keycard. "This is for the house I bought for you in the heart of the university district. It's private, secure, and ready for you to build your empire."

"The Reunion at the Gates"

Because the university was located in a different state, the journey required a flight. As the plane touched down and they arrived at the campus meeting point, the air changed.

The moment they stepped out of the car, Clara's eyes locked onto a familiar, energetic figure standing near the gate.

It was Kamsi.

She looked transformed—radiant, healthy, and completely back to her "Mogul" self now that her grandmother was fully recovered and discharged.

"KAMSI!" Clara shrieked, her excitement completely overriding her composure.

Without a second thought, Clara let go of her designer briefcase and heavy suitcases, leaving them right where they dropped on the pavement. She sprinted toward her best friend, her heels clicking rapidly against the asphalt.

"Hey! My luggage!" Massimo shouted, though a wide, helpless grin broke across his face as he watched her run. He sighed, shaking his head with an amused "here we go again" look, and began gathering her discarded bags to carry them alongside his own.

Clara didn't hear him. She crashed into Kamsi, pulling her into a spinning hug that nearly knocked them both over.

"You're actually here! You're actually okay!" Clara cried, squeezing her tight.

Kamsi laughed, gripping Clara back just as hard. "I told you I'd meet you at the finish line, didn't I? The doctor gave Grandma a clean bill of health, and I caught the earliest flight I could. I've already scouted the campus, Clara. We are going to own this place."

Massimo was enrolled in Electrical Engineering. He was ready to master the power behind the lights and the high-tech circuitry of his future fashion wearable designs.

Kamsi was diving into Computer Science. She wanted to master the systems that ran the world's data, ensuring she could manage their growing business empire from the back-end.

Clara was entering Medical Laboratory Science. After a summer of precision and administration, she was drawn to the science of the human body. She was ready to master the diagnostics and laboratory research that underpinned modern medicine.

"I've already synced the security systems between Massimo's house and my lodge," Kamsi announced, her tablet already open.

"The Engineering labs are ten minutes north, the Computer Science wing is right next door, the Medical Science labs are across the quad, and the movie studio is a twenty-minute drive east."

Clara looked at her two best friends, feeling the weight of the gifts from Massimo's mother and the excitement of their new independence. "We actually made it."

Massimo adjusted the collar of his custom-tailored jacket and said "Let's go ."

The lodge Kamsi had rented was a far cry from the house Massimo's father bought.

It was modern, with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an open floor plan that felt like freedom.

As they unloaded the last of the bags, Massimo looked at the silver keycard to the private house his father had bought for him.

A flicker of doubt clawed at him.

Was he making the right choice? Rejecting the house his father had painstakingly bought? The thought lingered like a shadow in his mind, whispering that independence had its price…

He looked at the quiet, lonely street where that house sat, and then he looked at Clara and Kamsi, who were already arguing over who got the larger dresser in the lodge.

With a decisive click, he shoved the keycard into his back pocket. "I'm not staying there," he announced. "It's too quiet. I'm moving into the lodge with you two."

"Really?" Clara asked, popping her head out of a bedroom door, a streak of dust on her cheek.

"The inseparable trio doesn't work if we're in different zip codes," Massimo said, grabbing his remaining suitcase. "Besides, who's going to make sure you actually eat a vegetable if I'm not here?"

Later that evening, as the sun began to dip behind the university's clock tower, the three of them stepped out for a stroll.

The campus was serene, the air filled with the scent of freshly cut grass and the distant hum of student life.

They walked along the stone paths, admiring the school environment, students strolling around too and nice buildings.

They eventually found themselves at a small, rustic eatery on the edge of the quad. It was a cozy spot with fairy lights and the smell of grilled spices.

Despite having kitchens full of potential, they decided to have their first university dinner right there, soaking in the "freshman" atmosphere.

During the meal, Massimo's phone buzzed. It was a text from his mother:

"Send the address of your new home immediately. I am preparing a waybill of high-quality foodstuffs, spices, and supplies for the semester.

Don't tell me you don't need it; I know you better than you know yourself."

Massimo chuckled and typed out the lodge's address instead of the house his father had bought.

He knew Clara's mom had already sent Kamsi back with bags of dried fish, crayfish, and local spices, but his mother's contribution would ensure they lived like royalty for months.

"The Snack King"

As they began the walk back to the lodge, Massimo detoured into a local 24-hour mart.

He moved through the aisles with the precision of an a perfector of his friends preferences.

He knew Kamsi didn't have much of a sweet tooth. She was the "savory queen," preferring the crunch of chin-chin, the flaky crust of a well-spiced meat pie, or a simple, dense piece of cake.

He loaded a basket with her favorites, ensuring she had enough to fuel her late-night coding sessions.

But for Clara? Clara was a different story.

Massimo moved to the candy and snack aisle and began clearing the shelves. Chocolates, gummy bears, imported chips, and every sweet treat imaginable went into the cart.

"Max, what are you doing?" Kamsi asked, peering over his shoulder. "Are you opening a grocery store?"

"If Clara runs out of sugar, she gets 'the pout,'" Massimo said, not even looking up as he grabbed a final pack of sour rings. "And if she starts the pout, she starts crying to me that she's 'starving' at 2:00 AM. I'm performing a preemptive strike."

Clara, seeing the mountain of snacks, did a little victory dance right there in the aisle.

"See? This is why he's the favorite Twin today!"

As they walked back to the lodge under the moonlight, arms full of bags and hearts full of excitement, the reality of their new life finally settled in—along with the storm waiting on the horizon.

They were miles away from their parents, on the verge of three different careers, but as they laughed together on the porch, they knew one thing was certain: the world had no idea what was coming for it.

"They thought they were ready but someone on campus was already watching, scheming, and waiting for the perfect moment to unravel everything."
