The sewer fell into a dead silence.
The eyes of the Bell Rats that had surrounded Durin instantly changed from a crimson red to a clear, azure blue. They looked around in confusion at first, but upon realizing the bloody remains on the ground were their kin, they let out strange cries and scattered in all directions.
It took a good while for Durin to recover from his daze, his thoughts spinning in a chaotic mess.
"I... I'm still alive?"
The cold wind blowing through the sewer brushed against Durin's bare upper body; his shirt had long since been burned to ash. Feeling his body back under his control, he propped himself against the wall with his left arm, gasping for breath.
With just a glance at his left arm, Durin shuddered violently. He hurriedly looked down to examine his body, his heart filled with utter horror!
Spreading across his chest where his heart was, there was a mass of dark red, chitinous flesh. Hideous blood vessels, nearly as thick as fingers, pulsed and twisted like worms hidden beneath the skin, seemingly trying to break free from the shackles of his mortal flesh and burst through the surface.
This crimson flesh extended from his left chest all the way to his left upper arm, hideously covering his original skin and manifesting an endless sense of terror.
Durin was dumbfounded.
Based on his knowledge of the League of Legends lore, the current changes in his body were extremely similar to the effects of being possessed by a Darkin.
The Darkin, known as "The Fallen" in the League, are bloody legends from a long-lost era. They were once the glorious God-Warriors of the Ascended Empire, now buried for a thousand years.
Due to the fall of the Ascended Empire's imperial family a thousand years ago and after a world-destroying war, the God-Warriors, whose minds were severely traumatized, declared themselves the legitimate successors of the empire. They carved out territories, and as friction and disputes arose, it gradually evolved into mutual slaughter.
In the very end, their physical bodies were destroyed in the war, leaving them with no choice but to house their consciousness and souls within weapons. They could only achieve resurrection by seizing the bodies of others.
During this process, the host's body would be transformed using Darkin Magic into a powerful form suitable for the Darkin soul. As long as you were a mortal, you could not avoid having your body seized by a Darkin.

Also, the author is a complete newbie, so I don't have a QQ group and can't reply to comments much. But I do read all the comments, so I know what you all are saying.
Regarding the slow pace: the speed at which the protagonist grows stronger is indeed a bit slow, as he's working hard in the early stages... However, the protagonist will still get stronger, and he won't be limited to just Darkin powers; for example, he'll encounter strange and mysterious powers like Demons, the Shadow Isles, the Void, and so on.
Regarding the plot: the protagonist might suffer quite a bit in the early stages and be somewhat miserable because his starting point is low. But the overall tone will definitely not be about abusing the protagonist, as I can't stand that either.
Let's talk about the background setting:
It's mainly based on the official League of Legends lore, LoR game settings, and various miscellaneous game materials. Then, I've added some of my own understanding and headcanon. It's certainly hard to make it perfectly align with the original setting. For some very vague timelines or details not specified in the original lore—plus the spells and book titles that appear—I've made them up. There's no researchable data for them in the original setting, so lore sticklers, please have mercy.
