Honestly, I had never truly let go of the people who disappeared from my life, not even for a moment.
The memories we shared were far too precious to simply fade away. Yet, I had long since let go of any hope of their return.
In truth, they were never really mine to begin with; that's why they left. And, in my experience, those who left never found their way back.

The falling snowflakes, which had momentarily paused, resumed their graceful descent. I purposefully closed my eyes for a fleeting moment, then cautiously reopened them.

But just then, a voice reached my ears, deeper and richer than I remembered. Aiden stood still, neither drawing nearer nor retreating.
