Carlisle rarely stayed at the barracks, so this might have been my last opportunity to talk with him.
After greeting the soldiers stationed in front of Carlisle's quarters, I cautiously asked, "Carlisle, can I come in?"
"Come in."
Carlisle replied in his distinctively cold yet composed voice from inside.
I turned the doorknob and entered.
"Welcome, Lili. It's been a while," Carlisle greeted me with a slight smile, his curved red eyes holding dark circles beneath them.
‘He must have been exhausted from daily deployments, commanding, and attending meetings whenever he had time to rest.’
"I didn't expect you to come to see me first."
Carlisle spoke gently, a tender smile gracing his lips, as he gathered the scattered papers around him.
"You must've just come back from a meeting."
"As always."
"You look like you should use some rest, but I thought I might not have another chance to talk to you, so…”
