Ava nodded slowly.
"They're serious, aren't they?"
"Yes."
"And I'm the weakness."
Dominic's jaw tightened.
"You're not a weakness."
"Then what am I?"
He stepped closer.
"Something I can't afford to lose."
Her breath caught.
"Then why does it feel like you're pushing me away?"
"Because staying close to me puts you in danger!"
The words echoed.
But Ava didn't step back.
